Hey,
I just got Virtual DJ6 and not using turntables. I am running from PC to Mackie 402-VLZ3 4 channel mixer, then to (2)Gemini GX-1501 Powered Speakers. I am new to dj'ing and these forums so im sorry if im askin something that has already been answered 1000 times. I want to run a couple turntables, but dont know where to start. I know i want cd's not vynls and thats about it. Im on a limited budget. What else do i need to puchase to hook up turntables and can i use the mixer i have. Also what turntables would you suggest to buy on a limited budget. I am a mobile DJ so something compact might be nice!
Thanks for all the Help

I'm kind of lost here, why do you want CDs on not vinyls and you're asking the question on a DJ software site? These are three different things my friend! I think what yo might be asking about is something that you can use to control VDJ with?
If so there are multitude of options that have nothing to do with either CD or vinyl. If price is a factor then consider the Numark Total Control, this is an all-in-one DJ solution and is made of plastic. This means that the two decks and mixer are combined, but you will need a soundcard, the DJIO is made by Numark and is usually marketed to Total Control users. there is also the Hercules MKII DJ Control which also requires a separate soundcard and is similar in quality and price to the TC.
If you want a level up from that there for a few more $$ there are a few options to consider so I'll tell you about the two most popular units. The Numark Omni Control and the Hercules RMX DJ Console. These are both well made and durable because they are made of metal. They also contain a soundcard that is built-in and have extra inputs & outputs for other uses as well as lots of buttons for controlling MIDI functions within the software.
There are a few more out there that I'm sure one of the other members can tell you about.
Good luck.

I was now looking at the Vestax VDI-100. Any of these MIDI controllers is compatable with Virtual DJ right? If so any comments on the
VDI-100??? And with this controller or one like it, I wont need to use an external mixer right? I can just use the mixer in the VDI-100 and hook my powered speakers right up to that correct??

Vestax VCI-100 is just a controller, you are going to need an external audio card in order to have a decent audio preview.
I would recommend the Hercules RMX.

+1
I know I say this all of time here but My middle son (20), has the RMX and he loves it. It has the built in sound card so he just brings his laptop, RMX and external hard drive and plugs into the system wherever he's at.
It's a great piece of kit and it's very simple to use yet it's loaded with features.

@ Supersound.. When you said you want cd's, are you talking about cd players that can scratch. These are examples.. Pioneer CDJ 800, Pioneer CDJ 400, Pioneer CDJ 1000. Denon 5500. Denon DN-s3700. Numark CDX

If you are on a budget, check out the Stanton series of CD mixers. They aren't Pioneer's, but they more than adequately do the job. Get a 4 channel sound card and an external hard drive, and you are ready to go with VDJ. I picked one of my Stanton c.304's up on Craigslist for $200 about a year ago, and the other on EBay for $102 about 3 months ago. Of course exercise due caution and diligence when making these types of purchases.
