FWIW I use a DX10 compatible card on XP (obviously with DX9) without issue.

DX10 and DX9 will co-reside on vista; it comes with DX10 by default and isn't removable. What is being suggested to you is that you use a card that is *not* DX10 compatible - just DX9.

Yes thank you.. was trying to c if my back up card would work if I installed DX9 , The box indicates DX9/DX10.. Didn’t work..

I believe Discobrian24 uses this card http://www.amtechonline.com/ati-hd4850.html
Not certain if he is running Vista or XP,, sent him a message asking…

This was my original card that worked great for about four months before it burnt out do to pad ventilation. Then I purchased a backup at bestbuy and upgraded to the r4890…. Bigger didn’t make things better…
Probably order another

And that is why I told you to BUY THE SAME CARD. In ATI you NEED TO TWEAK the FAN SETTINGS. I have told you many times about it, I even remember doing the tweak in the registry BEFORE ATI had the tweak on their CCC. I have Vista and didnt like the newest drivers from ATI so I went back to somethin like 8.10 which was the one I used without issue. I am swamped with work and my own system issues right now to spend time helpin, but when you get suggestions from me and dont follow them it makes me wonder why I am wasting my time.

How many systems do you have? I see threads all over the forum with different systems and different specs????

You need to SLOW DOWN and stop changing stuff so quick and maybe you will get it ironed out. I will tell you that you should have stayed with the 4850. The only Freeze issues per say for me came from 2 things.

1. BAD FILES which I told you about and am not going into that again and,:
2 Auto Cue. I have issues still to this day with auto cue enabled, my workaround is to just not use it.

come on... I do appreciate all the help and suggestions...
we went over the upgrade and never said anything about DX10 and the insurmountable issue that would follow.... but.. I asked you about ur op. Vista.. Kool ..
I just finish redoing all my vids.. they are all the original extension they were ripped at, mostly VOB and MP4's so that issue has been attended to.. And I shot you off a email explaining that.
that all aside, I started with the big issue that was redoing the vids and if it wasn’t for that card going bad DX10 never would of come up...

But now I can move on to the card... tomorrow morning...

Oh , I have 1 pc , two HP laptops that work fine for backups... I've mention the cards in them as a comparison that they run fine..

Bod new Bian.. The 4850 is DirectX 10 capability.. that was close. I was one click away from ordering it and decided to double check... Good thing

Funny all these desktops burning out and having problems, I use a laptop with a 256mb niv card and have had no problems.

Why not sell the big desktop thing with all the wires coming out of it n the ext keyboard and just buy a lappy?

19 inch touch screen is nice... these new card run very hot and i had fans all around it to run at 49%.. Dammm i even had to ut my house fane right up against the case to keep the dam thing from overheating so i could install all the software...

the unit runs great except.. the freezing thing that seems to be figured out... just finding a card with ddr3 512mb dx9 is extremely hard to find.. some add tell you they are dx9 but when u read the specs it dx10... think im on to one ATI Radeon X1950Pro 512MB 2DVI/HDTV PCI-Express Video Card..

the thing about laptops is you cant upgrade them..
i wonder if my touch screen will work a loptop.. hmmm. mY TWO LAPTOPS don't have DVI outs.

I might have one you can have, pulling down two systems tonight.

I know its a DX10 card and I use the card with Vista with no issues.

I also run the X1950 cards in our XP systems.

Did you enjoy it performance of the X1950 cards?

….. when it come to the dx10 card,, until vdj come up with a patch, im downgrading. MSI is going to get back to me about what they are willing to do for me regarding the R4890.. If support gets back to me soon regarding if they plan on releasing a patch for DX10 I will just take there newest hi end card, put it in the closet and wait..

you are great..

The XFX Technologies XFX PVT43GUDL6 GEFORCE 6600GT 256MB DDR2 900Mhz 128BIT PCI-E DUAL DVI
isnt bad.. Has DVI outs and my touch screen prefers it over vga....

still looking at my options with Diamond Viper ATI X1950PRO AGP 512MB Video Card http://www.vantagecart.com/demo/index.php?p=product&id=56&parent=6

Whats ur price$$$
I don’t plan on any more children so that out.

Paul
With all of the bs that you have gone through, or put yourself through is price really a factor?

It was a gift, just tell me which one you want and I will ship it tomorrow.

First a big shout out to cstoll

Thank you…

After 4 month of searching, asking, begging for an answer to the video freezing issue you came along and suggested one thing.. so obvious it should of been to the season tech but you stated it.. even yesterday another user posted a thread asking why his vids are freezing.. He was given the same old responses I was given after you stated the reason why the freezing accrued… I couldn’t take what I was seeing and had to post a response to there technical jargon without even mentioning what you and only one user asked me after 4 months..

“The majority of video cards out there are being build for DX10 and VirtualDJ is firmly constructed on DX9 for it's video engine”
My god!!!!!!!

And another shout out to my man MP3RICK who I am Indebted to for coming to my aid and asked for no compensation sent me a leftover Gforce card that is DX9 from his junk box… Dammm… It worked,, NO FREEZING.. that’s right no FREEZING..

Thank you everyone for your help.. Really.. I love this software and this place and all of you….

CSTOLL and MP3RICK … I’m truly Indebted to you and if there anything I can ever do for either of you please don’t ever hesitate to ask

And its John, not Paul btw...got it.
Its important to point out that there are many reasons for video freezes and many who use dx10 do so without problems.

We (Atomix) is forced to deal with eash problem on a one by one basis starting with the system troubleshooting first because some do just fine as I said.
It is not an option to have a different version for dx 10 use, but I am hearing that Windows 7 has corrected this problem, we will see.
I have another friend locally that is being forced to options that are not workable due to his avm 02 video mixer's need for svideo.
None of the laptops being produced now have svideo, so again we are forced to accept the trends and adjust.

BTW. it did not come from my "junk" box...lol, it's a working card that came from a working system with low hours and should give you a good long life.

Thank you for the kind words, we don't get that very often but are just as happy with the satisfaction that we helped people and won their trust and satisfaction with the program back.

Yes, thank you for the compliment and I am not going to re-interate what Rick said but I do want to add support to one of his comments ...

There are those out there that are using DX10 compatible cards with no problems.

And, something I have said all along is that the MOST POWERFUL hardware is not necessarily the most stable and/or compatible to the software - and that is any software NOT just VirtualDJ.

I am glad you are functioning again doing well now that you have a component that best fits your setup.
