last night I was DJing at one of my weekly gigs and for an hour or so everything was fine. All of a sudden the song froze for about a second a few times and then i noticed an internal hardrive letter missing in the left browser. Went to 'my computer" and it was showing fine there. I went to config - browser and did a clean fix etc and it showed zero music. I rebooted VDJ and it still didn't appear on the left and now the drive letter didn't appear in config - browser either. I tried adding it but each time I clicked on the drive it froze completely. i even let it work for 15 minutes to try import my music to the database but it was not responsive. Here's the weird thing.... If i go into history and drag a song from the missing hardrive from an older date the song, vid and karaoke work no problem. They show a question mark but once loaded the icons come back for the ones I played. All the help/ideas possible to fix this problem please. It's hard to test while working at the same time. All the stuff I needed to play from the missing drive i had to copy to the C drive and add from there. What a nightmare but clients only knew that the song froze a few times. Help...

In the VDJ browser, NOT THE WINDOWS BROWSER , did you click on "My Computer'? If so, does it show up there? If it does right mouse button click on it, and set as favorite.

Only time I ever experienced a drive disappearing was with an external drive connected via eSata (for the purpose of backing-up my C & D drives). I wasn't using VDJ at the time so I'm not sure if it's really the same problem you're having! My problem was related to an eSata cable that simply had too much plastic shielding on the drive end of the eSata cable! Pared back some of the shielding to ensure a better connection and my problems went away. The drive was simply disconnecting occasionally from the laptop due to a combination of the weight of the eSata cable coupled with the weak connection in the first place!
The only thing I can think of with a drive letter disappearing is either a bad connection or a power issue with your drive.

No virus, doesn't ever get connected to internet, nor do I let anyone put a usb memory stick or external hardrive connect to it. I can't afford to have it go down as it's used 7 days a week DJing.

Can't be a bad connection, it always shows in the xp "my computer" and I can access all the data through xp

In VDJ>config>browser, what do you have checked? Do you see all your music in Windows, and do they play in the WMP?

Dude...That sounds like your drive is dying. If you have a backup, use it! I had the same thing happen to me once. Your drive may not be dead yet, but it sounds like it's dying. usually when a program can't see the drive anymore it's because the drive is no longer recognizable. It may spin up for a little while where it can be seen but if it freezes up, it's no longer recognizable.
I could be wrong but you may want to look into it. Hook your drive up and LISTEN to it. Do you hear any clicks as the drive spins? is it spinning at all?
Good luck

That's what it sounds like, but I was trying to ease him into it. The drive may also be at capacity, which can also cause some problems. There still may be a chance that he has just lost the database, but I would think about a recovery service just in case the drive does bite the bullet.

Yes it does, it sound something similar like what i encountered last year. But hopefully i'm wrong about your situation man.
It may be a port on the HDD may be spoiled and due to that it can't be read to the computer. I solved my problem by visiting the manufacturer and repair it (as it still under warranty that time). Luckily my HDD can be saved. Now i have 2 HDD backup for the set of music. It for safety precaution.
troubleshoot:
Have you try different cable and see if it operates well?
Is there any weird sound coming from your HDD.
regards;)

Thanks for all your input... i found the problem. i decided to remove the virtual dj database xml and it wouldn't let me. I got a CRC error trying to delete the file. I purchased Spinrite software and it fixed the CRC problem. I since then transfered everything to a new hard drive as CRC is not a good sign that my harddrive is working good. Better be safe than sorry... That harddrive is only 6 months old
