Hi, You probably saw my posts about getting control over this Q-Spot 150. I had some laptops laying around unused and decided to one and use a software controller solution for my DMX.

I bought a Velleman USB to DMX interface... around $86 from eBay.

I'm trying to use Freestyler as the software because of the cool 3-D simulator so I can build scenes for different rooms to scale, in the comfort of my home.

The only problem right now is that the channels of my light do not match the channels in the software. But I'm still working on it to customize the software to match the hardware.

A joystick is cool. I'm going to try to connect my USB joystick eventually. Freestyler supports joysticks. That way if some sexy thing is on the dancefloor wiggling around... I can swoop the lights down and show her off....heheheheheheh

Hi Big M.

Dmx can be as simple or as complicated as you like. Most DMX lighting can be linked without using a controller so that all the lights will sync together using 1 light as a master and the others as slaves. This uses one light as an automatic controller for the rest.
Controllers (and there are now a vast array to choose from) can vary from simple hand controllers with a few functions, such as blackout, scene, gobo and speed change to full blown lighting control desks with dimmers, scene memorys and fully progamable features. Or as has been mentioned before a DMX/USB interface hooked up to a computer can be used to allow your choice of software to control the lights.

The choice is yours.
