Hi mate.
All the companies you mention make "useable" TTs Firstly this would be a try before you buy thing. TTs are a particularly personal piece of kit. Some like Vestax and some wont be seen dead without a pair of Technics SL's and so on.
See if you can arrange something with your local dealer and try a few of the units which are in your price range.
Look for a quick start up/solid platter with little or no side to side play/wobble and a rapid recovery when holding the disc stopped to stable speed when released. Check for a good solid mounting on the tone arm, again any wobble here is not good and will cause you problems with skip when/if you are scratch mixing.
Have a look around the forum for DJ's who use TT's and see what you can pick up.
I cant give you a direct answer on this because there isn't one.
Good luck
Daz

PLEASE do NOT get gemini, ion or ipod based TT's. Let me repeat that...DO NOT GET GEMINI, ION OR IPOD BASED TT's!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Trust me on this. You want to get the right tt's the first time. Otherwise, you end up spending more money because when it comes to tt's you WILL need good ones. If you but bulls**t, You buy real tt's later and you just spent way more than you needed to.
Get Techs....You can buy used on ebay or guitar ctr online. Or...
Get Numark TTX Or...
Get Numark TT500
Don't waste your time or money on anything else.
Also, needles are just as important as your tables. Ortofon all the way.
Get Ortofon Concorde Pro S Or...
Get Ortofon Concorde dj S Or...
Get Ortofon Concorde Nightclub Or...
Get Ortofon Concorde Digitrack
Good luck.

You are buying the cartridge with the stylus. They sell them in a package..
Any one of these are very good for time codes.. Better reading.. The MV is the output. 7 and higher is great.. Buy which ever one you can find at the cheapest price.
Ortofon OM scratch (7 MV)
Ortofon Digitrack (8 MV)
Shure M44-7 (9.5 MV)
Ortfon Q-Bert (11 MV)
You can buy either a single turntable cartridge or a twin pack.. A single catridge is the one you mount into the headshell from the turntable & the twin packs just screw into the turntable arm..

You can add the Stanton range of cart/stylus to your short list as well.
Stanton/ Shure and Ortofon have all been used in the DJ industry for many years.
BTW agree with Dizzy on the Ions they realy are cheap and nasty.

I purchased a pair of Numark Pro tt-2 turntables and they are up to statndard with technics 1200 but cost less. you can cop them used on ebay or craigslist for $150 or less. they have just as much torque power as the 1200 and they include a reverse button and digital readout.
Gemini beleive it or not mad a turntable that is high quality on par with technics. Gemini PT2410 Translucent Blue Direct Drive Turntable, this turntable works!!!!
Vestax also makes a great set of turntables that do the job.
Check ebay for used 1200's they are very cheap in price. but when strapped for cash check out the ones i listed. i have tested and played on a lot of turntables, dont get caught up in the hype that the only TT is 1200's yes they are industry standard but there are other ones out there that work just as well without the high price tag. I rent equipment and all the dj's request 1200's until I show them the numarks or Gemini and how they work, but it is also an image thing - peer pressure!!

Theres nothing wrong with Statons. I have been a DJ for 25+ years and have had my Statons for the past 5yrs scratching and mixing real vinyl and encoded plates with no let downs!

Let me throw in my 2 cents..
TECHNICS IS NOT THE ONLY CHOICE ANYMORE.
STANTON - Not bad beginner tables (from t.80 - up), I suggest the Stanton Str8 - 150s if you have the money. Way more features (and torque than technics).
GEMINI - Not a very good reputation, but there is a certain turntable (Gemini TT-04) that has proven itself to be good. You will find alot of good surprises in that turntable, if you give it a chance.
VESTAX - There is nothing wrong with vestax. It can handle scratching and mixing just fine.
NUMARK - Avoid getting the lower class numarks (TT1625, TT1650s). Look towards the TTX and the TT500. More torque for your scratching and has a nice reputation.
TECHNICS - Hey, there is nothing wrong with getting technics. At all. You know you are on the safe side when you get these turntables. However, I just want to let you know that its not the ONLY choice when it comes to turntables.
AMERICAN AUDIO - There is the American Audio HTD 4.5. It has about 4.5 kg of torque (same as Stanton Str8-150s), at a cheaper price. It also has the same features as the stanton turntable. If come across this turntable, I suggest it!
CARTRIDGES - Yes Ortofon has the top of the line cartridges. However, they are EXPENSIVE!! If you have a higher budget, I suggest the Ortofon Digitraks, or the Nightclubs. If you are on a lower budget, Shure cartridges are great, like the M44-7.
My advice:
You get what you pay for. If you are on a lower budget: Stanton, Gemini, Numark aren't bad. Just remember to purchase what I have mentioned, not the lower class turntables.
If you are on a high budget, it wouldn't hurt to get Technics. They are really good turntables. Look for the Stanton Str8 150s too.
Rumor: I heard Pioneer is going to create a proffesional turntable. Watch out for that!
Hope this helps.

I had some Gemini pt-2000s that were nice decks.
Technics are nice, but nowadays there's a lot of decks just as good.
Numark TTX is nice, but mines used to get hot.
I like a Stanton T-80, don't know if they still make 'em. Straight arm, good torq, about $225(can't beat that)
I'll tell what I din't like PDX-2000, ..umm not for me.

I had a pair of Gemini pt 2000's. Not a bad deck for home use but club use...Forget about it. The amount of feedback that you get through the deck to the tonearm makes them unuseable. Believe me, you get what you pay for.

SOo my Stantons came today...yeah i had no idea how to put the needle alignment/adjstment nothing i have no idea if this is even set up rite...
also is there a time limit that the tcv will run before they stop sync..using the rmx as a mixer it will stop playing via tcv and start using the rmx for player..i check the settings and everything is still set the same what up with that.
