I've been using Numark TotalControl for about 2 almost 3 years. It def. has seen better days and I think it is starting to mess with VDJ. I've been looking at the HC4500, especially because I use the 4500 twin deck CD players and the x500 mixer and love them both. What have current owners experienced with this controller? Is it worth the buy or for the price should I be looking elsewhere? How is the built in sound card? Features? Functionality with VDJ? Thanks

I love the controller and what it can do, but...
I'm experiencing a little bit of lag/response time. Making it impossible to scratch efficiently. I've also have tested the controller on PCDJ VJ, and that wasn't a problem at all. Obviously Virtual DJ kicks PCDJ's ass, but i'm hoping someone can help.
To the person who started this post: If someone helps me with this response time issue, i recommend this controller 100%

It's not made for scratching at all. The feature is there but it's not what the controller is about.
The sound card is excellent in Asio mode, loud and punchy.
You can either use it on VDJ 5.2 with the JP Boggis all singing all dancing custom mapper or use VDJ 6 and add to the basic mapping yourself.
What ever way you go it is an excellent peice of kit. I've had my one a year and no problems whatsoever.

I use it 5 nights a week & the unit is rock solid with VDJ. No crashing or locking up like with my Hercules RMX which I only use at home now. I highly recommend the 4500.

Rock solid controller and CD player.
I've had mine for about a year and a half...no issues whatsoever.

Thanks everyone for your input. I ordered a 4500 a little while ago. I like the fact that it can tie into the x500 I'm using and that it has a soundcard built in.

Good choice, you will love it!

I had an Hc4500 and its a very good controller. It's better than a hercules RMX, Denon HD2500, Dac 3, DMC 2. The HC4500 has a built in sound card which is great. Just get a mixer like the Denon X500 and you are good to go.
I remember when i first bought mine. The HC4500 was too advanced that it didnt work well with PCDJ at the time. No dj software supported the controller at the time. I was able to buy it cheap for 390 brand new.

Hey everyone, quick question...which driver from the downloads area would be best to use with the 4500?
Mensajes Tue 08 Dec 09 @ 11:40 am
Is it the Asio driver you mean?
There are mixed experiences, some people prefer the original one and some prever the V2 driver.
Just see what works best with your system. If you try one and there are no sound glitches etc then that's fine.
I tend to find with Asio (and the 4500) it changes depending on your pc and spec to be honest.
If you're using VDJ6, remember to check the firmware on the controller is the latest one too. Should be SYS1006.

ok, I am illiterate in the ways of midi...I've read the links and are still confused. I understand that with version 6 I'll have to program the functions myself but is there another thread that will explain it a little easier. for example how do I program the screens on the unit to become active like in version 5? I'm really sorry to have to be led by the hand on this, but any help would be appreciated. Thanks

The mapping in V6 is very basic compared to the JP Boggis DLL for V5. What happens in V6 is that the HC4500 is mapped in a very simple way so that you can add to it yourself using VDJ script language.
The capabilities of this at the moment are not as advanced as the DLL mapper for V5 so the choice is to use the 4500 on VDJ 6 with basic mapping or on V5 with the advanced DLL.
You can of course load VDJ5 and VDJ6 on the same machine and swap between them .... I use V6 for bar use and V5 for the club as the Boggis mapper is brilliant. Only downside is having two seperate databases.

There is a default configuration for the HC4500; what is it that you would like to change?

***SORRY EVERYONE***
forgot the most basic rule...make sure your software is the latest hahaha!
See, I've been using 6.0.1 because my TotalControl worked the best with that version. I didn't realize that with the latest version of the FIRMWARE I needed to upgrade my SOFTWARE. So, I'm off to test everything. THANK YOU SO MUCH for all your help! I'll let you know how everything goes...

Good luck .... let us know if you need any more help.
HC-4500 ways, I don't think there's any difference in the mapping between 6.01 and 6.04 though.

The point of the link above was not for 'mapping' questions, but because you were asking about the drivers. And, on that wiki page it outlines which drivers are for which platforms and what you should use. Glad it helped you find other items as well :)

First, thanks again for your help with this controller. I have another queston for the users and I hope it's not a problem posting it here:
I seem to have a problem when I've been playing for a bit and my songs load very slowly...No spike in CPU though. My vids seem to load faster than my MP3's do...any insoght/ I recently upgraded to 6.0.4 from 6.0.1 to get the 4500 to work.
