Dell Studio16 XPS 1640, Intel Core 2 Duo P7450 (2.13GHz/1066Mhz FSB/3M L2 Cache)
4GB, DDR3, 1067 MHz 2 Dimm forXPS 1640
ATI Mobility RADEON M96XT - 1GB
Windows 7 Home Premium, 64bit
Tried ver. 6.0.4 & 6.0.5
Video on the right deck tends freeze after playing one or two videos. If I load a video in the other deck it then the right deck continues. I checked my directx ver. I'm at ver. 11. Seems to play ok in Automix (all on the left deck).
Second problem, when I hook up projector to vga port on laptop with vga cable the resolution seems fine. got to job & hooked up projector via 100' CAT5 VGA video extender the screen on the laptop got & the video output to the screen got very small.
any ideas?

Hi,
Welcome to the Dell Studio XPS video freeze club!
This problem actually spans across many systems. At first it was thought of as a Nvidia thing;
http://www.virtualdj.com/forums/119804/General_Discussion/Video_Freezes_Until_New_Video_loads_in_6_04.html?search=video+freeze&page=1
And a Mac thing;
http://www.virtualdj.com/forums/117375/MAC_Version_Technical_Support/When_is_the_Video_fix_for_6_02_Mac_going_to_be_available__Any_one_heard_anything_.html?search=video%20freeze&page=1
And a memory thing;
http://www.virtualdj.com/forums/120697/General_Discussion/Video_Freeze_Problem_Identified_.html?search=video%20freeze&page=1
Just seach video freeze and find all kinds of stuff.
But you and I and QUEWHAT62 have the same computer with the same video freeze issue.
We should band together and demand an answer to this!
Kevin

Hey,
Thanks for getting back to me. I can't say it's a club I'm proud to be a member of. But I did get someone on another forum recommend I down load the ATI Catalyst controller from the ATI website. It is supposed to give you more controls for the video card. I am going to try it tonight I will let you know how I make out.
If you can get to it before me here is the link http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx
I guessed at the 4000 series

I gig every night. I have brand new HP with ATI 4650 Radeon and I have freezes on every video. I re downloaded drivers from ATI yesterday and gigged last night with freezes. If you quickly load new video on the other deck it will stop freezes, but do it within 5 seconds. I'll try more performance options tonight, the freezes, make gigging frustrating. I have my rock solid vj-gateway laptop as backup, and it gets used every night. But I will get this HP laptop with Virtual 6,windows 7, 64 bit, solid, some night!
Peace,
Lex

Yeah loaded vdj 6.05 on my wife's Dell Inspiron 1525 which is a Dual core 2.0 with 3g ram running Vista SP2. It has the Intel Chip video and has absolutely no problems with videos. I can rule out Windows 7 because the XPS has Vista at first and I was having problems also. I want to say its a 64bit thing, but others has witnessed this problem on 32bit machines. Many thought it was Nvidia but ours is ATI. What I noticed is our machine is DirectX11 and Windows 7 is by default DX10. I was reading today that DX11 is new and you have to have the best gaming hardware to run it.
Could this be the culprit??

im starting to think is a directx issue from what i read all over diferent post anything within directx10 and directx11 running vista or win7 video freezing no matter if using invidia or ati card ..vdj is a directx9.0.c engine guessing this ati card with directx11 is no backward compatible
some input from mediator or vip from vdj will be apreciated ....thank you

Here's my update 1-10-10
Last night I ran the Bloatware removal program removing anything that got installed thats not needed by Windows 7. Didn't stop the freezing.
I did all the Window tweaks on that hercules site on making Windows work better performance wise. Didn't help.
Next thing tonight is trying to get downgraded form DirectX11 to 9.
I'll keep you guys posted.
PS - The one thing did get accomplished is. I put that mydrive is spinning vb script on my Western Digital external drive to keep it from going to sleep & that worked. I rebooted the system & ran the script, came back an hour later & the drive was still being seen by VDJ & Windows. So that is one good thing & one less thing to worry about.

Just wanted to let you all know, I don't have as many freezes while running the default drivers for the ATI card that Windows 7 seven comes with. I will get freezes, but later in the set, unlike right away with the most current drivers.

I was having the same problem with freezing video on a Gateway NV59 with the ATI Radeon HD5650 Video with 1GB of ram and I was able to solve it by tweaking the registry which was recently introduced with VDJ 6.0.7.
I teaked the VideoMemFree to half my Video RAM to 512 and changed the VideoMemMaxUse to 128 and voila no more freezing so far.
I am using the VDJ 6.1.0 right now and may switched (read purchase) from OTSAV if this fix proves to be reliable.

i have the same problem and my laptop is asus core i7 2.80, 8gb of ram, 1gb ati radean 5870 ddr5 dedicated video card, 1tb hardrive (2)(500gb 7200rpm)
i have windows 7 professional 64bit with nothing but tmpeg program which i use to rip videos and virtual dj 6.1. i dont even have any of the programs that normally come with asus i even stopped windows crap programs from running...
all my videos are mp4.
ive had this problem since 6.0 and up first i was told it was my nvidia card (which was 1gb 9650gtx) now i have ati and same problem, i was also told to check the 32 page thread on this problem and tried everything and nothing still happens and for those that told to try memory improve master i purchased it and when i run virtual dj it tells me im using 18% of my memory while 2 videos are playing and freezing, its funny how they they point to finger and make excuses maybe a solution would be better and easier....i wonder if there will ever be a stable program ever like to old pcdj red 5.2? i can dream right?

Haven't posted to this thread in a while; most problems solved using the latest updates and tweakin the registry max video to 500m. Also, don't use my laptop as my main machine, I have built a custom desktop (before the the fix came out) but love using it and not worrying anymore. Everything just runs better on a Quad Core and great video card.

PCDJ Red does not do video; it does karaoke with the add-on, but VDJ does not have any issues with MP3+g karaoke.
