ok, so i've got the software... VDJ5...
i've got the hardware... Hercules RMX...
now, for the Lap-Top...its gona be a new one so what oprating system would be best...

Vista or 7???

7 or Vista??? or XP!!!

i'm running the Basic VDJ on Vista on my PC but it seems a little glitchy!!! is 7 better i wonder???
any feedback would be very gratefully received.

to be fair, it doesnt matter which OS you use. there is always problems with every OS untill you get used to the way it works with vdj and your setup.

i would suggest going with what ever you feel is best "for you".

while XP is the chosen favourite by many, not only dj's but I.T proffesionals. vista and 7 have advantages of their own.

basically to give you a quick lowdown of the OS's that we use, XP will give you the speed and ease of use you would want as a beginner, whereas vista tends to be a bit more complicated with a lot more research and faffiing abouit to get things to work. now then, windows 7 will give you the speed and ease of use that is offered by XP and also provide the features offered by vista.

as with any OS you will find it difficult at first to make it work with VDJ or any other programme for that matter.

i personally think you should go for the future proof option of windows 7. it will be awekward at first, but thats all part of the learning curve. soon microsoft will start to filter out xp support and software just as they did with win 2000 and ME. this will leave you in a slightly annoying predicament which will lead you to wish you had gone with another option.

at the end of the day, it is entirely your choice and we can only offer our poinions and support in whatever you choose to do.

but in my opinion the future proof opition will be more beneficial.

I suggest windows 7, keep going with the flow. no fix for xp sp3 anymore...
ditch vista, worst than MILLENNIUM edition (which was the worst OS from Microsoft ever)

I have windows 7 32 bits running, hercules rmx no fault.
 
I use XP on my desktop (main machine) and Vista Ultimate on the Laptop (back up). Both are similar specs and required about the smae amount of tweaking to get them to sound perfect.

I am trying to resist being seduced by Windows 7 for now, maybe even till service pack 1 (just to get any bugs worked out). But if I were starting clean with any choice to make right now, Windows 7 would be it. No sense starting off with XP as eventually it will not be supported by newer hardware.

Honestly though, if you can get a deal on a Vista machine, it may be worth it. Don't buy all the hype about it being crap. It is fine, and my MAC loving wife really liked using Vista the few times she had to.

I think the only real goal I would say is to stay away from 64 bit machines (of any OS) until the drivers become better (not beta).

I think you admitted in another thread that you are not very computer savvy

I would suggest you try and get VDJ working on the desktop first.. (it would be good practice before you have to deal with an expensive laptop)

As too laptops.. VDJ seems to have the lowest amount of issues with XP
after that windows 7 32 bit and vista 32 bit is almost equal..
64 bit Vista and Windows 7 seem to have a few issues that need ironing out.

Yes, i've got it all installed on my home PC now and will be getting a Lappy very soon.
Yes i definately am a little new to computers and Software etc i've only had a computer with broadband since November, but I am by experience a quick learner and soon get the hang ov things.
