Hey guys!

I have 4 old desktops that are 2 years or older that I am going to replace with a new rackmount setup.

Give me some advice on this setup or suggestions of what you have recently used. I will be building 4 identical setups to use with video djing since laptops are HELL to work with.

This has worked out real well for me in the last couple years. The only thing is that it is HEAVY. What is everyone else using. I like it because its not too long and fits in my gator case well.

it looks like you have it well thought out, and already sidestepped a couple mistakes I made with my rackmount..

IE: I only got a 350 watt power supply with mine (it was stock) and now really wished I had found something bigger..

Depth: the 15.7" depth is nice.. and means it will fit into almost any choice of rackcase (now and in the future), with lots of room for cables and connectors.

Rolled steel.. there is good and bad to this.. (mine is a heavy duty one also)
the good is it will last forever.. the bad is the weight will make you start to wish it would break (so you can purchase a cheap aluminum one)

If I ever do mine over again, I'm pretty sure I would change everything and go with a cheap aluminum 4U rack case.. nice and light, and some accept standard power supplies..

You also might want to rethink the soundcard.. Its really no better then most HD soundcards that come built in on most motherboards..
If you want a REAL upgrade of the soundcard, expect to pay over $200.. If your dont need super low latency, and your running to an external mixer, then the onboard sound will be fine.

They're comin' dude. I just think most of the users on running laptops. It may take a bit for the rackmount users to respond.

I would really like to to know what people think before I purchase something like this. I will be using virtual DJ exclusivly for video with this system. Audio will be both Virtual DJ and serato. Thanks....
 
bad idea because a rack with other stuff like mixer,midi-controller etc. is heavy , non-portable and what if you have to play one day in a club and the dj-booth is very small?

1st choice) Get a SHUTTLE PC.

When not in work, you have to take it to your office to make updates,rename your mp3s,update your database,save your playlists,do backups & upgrades. I am using a Shuttle Pc SX37P2 model , 3 hard drives & 8800 gtx video card. Shuttle 17'' monitor. Both have carry-bags.

I played videoclips with a shuttle pc and a vestax vci-300, for a 16year-old birthday party in a small house.
I put my pc under a small coffee-table and the controller with the screen on top.

It takes 5 minutes to assemble a pc with a keyboard,mouse,screen.

I use it since 2006 without problems. I do not use a laptop because I cannot upgrade and I hate usb-connections for external drives

2st choice) Get an all-in-one multitouch pc (MSI 2200)
 
What's the boot up time on the Shuttle? I'm curious as I daren't not use a PC in case of those awkward - loss of power - moments. With standard hardware you can press play as soon as the power comes back on. With a PC you have to boot and wait!

any one out there who can give me a helping hand...am totally new on this ...i mean the dj stuff i use a pro 5 dont really know how to use it well ..i need someone to teach me the techniques and how to produce beat sounds and mixing wit the pro
 
First of all, askign this question in the middle of a hardware discussion isn't going to score you any brownie points!!!!
