Tópico: Oh wise ones from the West...

Este tópico es antiguo y puede contener información incorrecta para la nueva versión.

I seek the good council ov the wise Sages ov VDJ.

Doth the Acer Extensa 5230E have enough processing power to run VDJ without any/many hicups???

Is the Intel Celeron 2.16 reliable enough to perform well against all foes???

Will the 1024 Mb memory be enough for faultless "tune" slaying???

Any experiences or advise greatfully received...

its only £160 so i'm tempted to bite into that rosy red exterior... please rescue me if i'm gona get poisoned by the wicked witch ov PC World!!!

Last time you wanted to get cheap crap, this time it's not much better. I guess you're on a tight budget but the spec of at PC is near the lower end and Celeron is not really up to the job. This may sound nasty but if you want to be a professional DJ using professional software then buy something decent. £160 just about feeds my two cats for a week ......

While a very creative post, I think you are just below the VDJ recommended specs: http://www.virtualdj.com/wiki/Specifications.html

If you are on a budget, desktops (while bulky and more to set up) are usually cheaper, easier to fix (even on the fly) and tend to give allot less audible "issues" than a laptop of the same or similar build with little to no tweaking. I think for the most part that desktops also have a more stable power supply, which makes a big difference when that is the only way to power up that RMX. I don't seem to have the same power and static issues that most people seem to experience, and I run a desktop as my main machine.

I built that desktop last year (Feb 09) with a $65 mother board, $20 for 2 gigs of ram, $120 for a Intel 2 ghz core 2 duo processor, a spare 80 gig SATA drive (for the OS), $100 for a 500 gig SATA music drive, installed in a case that a friend gave me. Use an old monitor, keyboard and mouse (until you can afford a better one).

You will have a great machine that you can upgrade individual parts for cheap as you go and don't have to deal with all the extra peripherals that laptops have (usually means less chance for latency issues). Mine has been solid with just the basic forum tweak recommendations to get perfectly solid sound and I know how to fix it because I built it.

I was always scared to need to use my laptop during a gig until very recently, it has always had audible drop outs no matter what I did. The laptop is a 3ghz centrino 2, 2 gig ram, 2 internal hard drives (os and storage) and was over $2000 in November of 08! If laptops were not so small and light to just turn on with just the power cable to plug in, I would never use one for DJing. They make a better backup solution in my book.

ok thanx. i got it this time... no more Celeron processors...
i definately am on a tight budget to start with. so happy to build up to the ultimate system.

OK Please don't scream at me if i ask what would be a good "cheapish" processor for a laptop?

I know i must be driving you all mad but i cant seperate the wheat from the chaff!!!
Keep it simple as my head is starting to hurt!!!

Then i can go armed with some information to the shop and not seem like such a Newbeee!!!

Thanx all

why not hit ebay??? im sure you can get a great bargain on there with dual core and maybe 2+ghz with 320gig hdd if you look for a week. i know for deffo you can get an awesome LT for £160.. just a thouhgt. but if you want to go brand new then you need to not rush into it and save a little more. just use your desktop for the time being.

Seana,

Understand budget is an issue. How's your mobile phone contract?

May seem a non-related question, but some of the "freebie" laptops given away by mobile operators here in the UK aren't that bad. Usually Dual Core and would be meaty enough for VDJ.

I know they are never free, but if you could spread the cost of your laptop purchase through your mobile bill - which may not end up bieng that much higher - and may give you mobile internet as well - this could be a no brainer.

I have a fellow DJ here that did just that. Spanking new laptop in a couple of days and only a few quid on his monthly mobile bill..

Cheers,

Roy

Thanx babes...
food for thought there and no mistake.

i'll have a look around...

Thanx all..
