Hi Everyone,

I am looking to build a new rackmount computer but need your help please.

Whay should I buy?????

I want to be able to do video mixing with now problems.

What processor, board, rams, video cards etc... ( do not hae loads of money to waste ) Was thinking of spending about £500,

Sorry a bit new at all this, was using a laptop but when I started to use video, things started going wrong. I believe that the laptop was not good enough. I had read that instead of a laptop, build a rack mount pc, you can get beter specs, so this is what I am going to try and do.

I am sure this has been talked about before but i have tried searching but found nothing helpful.

many thanks

Buy a laptop

I got a Laptop only as a backup!Why-Desktop? much faster (bus-harddisk-grafik-ram)cheaper and better extendable!!!And pci soundcards are much cheaper then usb solutions and less problem ;-)

Since I am a good computer person, just tell me what you usually do on your computer then I can choose a good computer for you.

For a computer for VirtualDJ, I recommend the Core 2 Duo E8400 Processor or the Core i3. For memory, I recommend 4GBs of RAM. The video card, I recommend at least the nVidia GeForce 8400 GS or a better one. The Operating System I recommend is either Windows Vista Home Premium or Ultimate 32-bit, or Windows 7 Home Premium or Ultimate 32-bit. The reason why I choose 32-bit is because not all MIDI controllers are compatible with 64-bit. I chose these specs so that your PC wont lag, even when connecting to a second monitor.

Desktop VS Laptop: (Based on using video, for audio only I'd go with a laptop.

Advantages: Desktop:
*Internal Drives (No portable USB hassles)
*Upgrade Video Cards Easily, laptops NOT so much)
*No over heating issues. (problematic for many laptops.
*Ability to use larger monitors. (So I'm going blind already) (*)-(*)
*The Desktop can be placed out of the "line of fire" (Beers, Dancing fools, Elephant Stampedes, Etc
*Poor a Rum & Coke on a Desktop Keyboard, $25.00 replacement, with a laptop....lots of weeping AND moaning followed by more rum & coke to ease your pain.
*More computer (Power) for the money ($)
*Easier to keep clean (Internally)
*Desktops are much less likely to grow legs and walk off when you turn your back for 5 minutes. Those pesky little laptops can sneak off easily.
*In an emergency one can find many components (Memory, Hard drives, Video Cards, Audio Cards, Monitors) at 3:00 AM at your local Wal-Mart store. (Not so much for laptops)

*Advantages: Laptops ---> smaller.

This is my totally unbiased opinion, hope it provides some insight.
