My CPU usage is very low. I am trying to increase my Video load speeds. I have 4 gigs of ram. Thinking of upgrading to 8 gigs. Can someone comments on their thoughts or experiences.
Win 7

You will get no enhancement of performance just incrising the amount of RAM; secondly 4 GB are more than enough to handle videos.

What drive are the videos stored on and how is it connected to your computer?

how long does it take to load a video now?

They are on a 1tb external drive connected via eSata.
Rotational Speed (rpm) : 7200 rpm
Cache : 16MB or greater

i will time the load speeds and post an average this afternoon. Thanks.

It doesnt need to be "timed", a guesstimate would be fine VS the size and type of file.

Try hooking up the drive to firewire and see the result or USB2 and take notes, may the best connection win!!!

a 57 MB MP4 (3:48) file takes about 15s while no other track is playing.

Files have been pre-scanned?
If you move the same file to the internal hard drive, THEN load into VDJ, how long does it take ?

eSATA is superior to both USB2 and FW800 for drive connections.

Yes, but I've heard of some people having an issues with this connection and then getting better results from the other, go figure...

Hi
My video files load times are about 1 second for each deck using vob files (av 300Meg)
I noticed the video speed really increased when I added my Nvidia sparkel Dual 7950GTS Video card 1Gig Ram
Though I am running also an Intel I7 2.8ghz 4gigs DDR3 etc,
But the video loads real quick, just need to get over the glitch playback of my vobs
Regards

I actually had an eSata drive that I could not write files larger than 50MB or it would unmount then spin back up. I could however read files all day long. Eventually it got repaird by the manufacturer.
In my opinion don't cheap out with a eSata drives.
