Tópico: Entry to DJing

Este tópico es antiguo y puede contener información incorrecta para la nueva versión.

Yoo what's up everybody! I have been wanting to enter the world of DJing for a while now, and I am getting close to making a purchase. I am a musical person, I play guitar and the keyboard. I downloaded the DEMO version of VDJ 6, and I really enjoyed it. Now I am trying to figure out my best option as an entry point.

Would it be a good idea to buy the VDJ Pro software, but use it without turntables/controllers - until I save up enough money to get a turntable/controller? I have a Macbook Pro so unfortunately I cannot purchase the entry level editions of the VDJ software. I plan on DJing with turntables and timecode vinyl.

My other option would be to buy the Vestax Spin - which is designed for the mac. (I know this is a VDJ forum - this is just my other option)

Right now I am leaning towards getting the VDJ software, just because I will be able to consistently get all the updates, so it is like a one time purchase. And I can keep adding onto my set up and learn to master the software. And probably the biggest selling point to VDJ, the support & information on this forum looks phenomenal!

I feel like I may have answered my own question, but is it smart to invest in a software and learn to use it without learning it with the use of turntables/controllers?

Any suggestions or comments will be very greatly appreciated.

Peace out!!!

If this is the software you want to use, then go for it! As a musician, having the physical interface make it much easier to use, however. Maybe find an inexpensive controller and soundcard to work with until you can afford the TTs you want?

i say learn the software, then get a controller. thats what i did and i dont regret it

If you don't mind not being able to do quick motions, (i.e fading and using the eq at the same time) then go ahead and buy the software. It might be frustrating at first, but if you learn how to move quickly just with the software you will be good to go when you actually buy the hardware.

The downside to this is you do get used to using your mouse and keyboard a lot more instead of your hardware.

Also, there are quick keys and shortcuts that allow you to do quick actions just as if you had real hardware. (You can never replace a real turntable to scratch on though.)

Good luck!

Dude you can't go wrong buying the software. There some awesome hardware out there now days the choice is endless. I would suggest going for a midi/hid controller as it seems vdj is more based around controllers instead of vinyl emulation.

Buy the pro license, it only stings once :)

You'll get lifetime upgrades and you will be able to use VDJ with any hardware you might purchase in the future.

get an hercules RMX or STEEL... that way you get the software (free updates) AND you get a midi controller that allows you to do more than one thing at a time... essential for mixing i think...

good luck

Only the full VirtualDJ Pro is eligible for free updates to the latest version. The free limited DJ Console Edition that comes with the Steel or RMX is not eligible, but you can upgrade from it to Pro at a considerable discount.

Thanks a lot to everyone who posted with a reply. There is so much information out there it's making my head spin lol. I don't have a lot of money to throw up..so a stripped down version of Traktor or Ableton looks good to me. If i buy VDJ Pro i'll be around here on these forums. Thanks again for your help!
