Hi everybody!(hi dr Nick! :P)
what are the parameters of quality song for DJing? I heard that wav format is the best. i work with mp3 and I use songs with 320kbps,but i noticed that some songs, both with 320kbps,have different sound.I mean one song have "stronger" sound than the other one. What are the other parameters for mp3 song?

How the original song was mastered can also play a big impact. If a track was made in someones basement and never professionally mastered (unless the guy knew how to master a track) songs can lack the kick of other professionally mastered songs.

Wav will give you a better sound than MP3. Wav files are in a lossless format. There are several other lossless formats out there but wav is the most popular one. MP3 files are compressed files. One of the things that that MP3 encoders do is to remove the really high highs and the low lows. These are the frequencies that most people cannot hear. Don't get me wrong...MP3 files (especially at 320k) will give you good sounding music. If you are DJing for a crowd, nobody will be able to tell the difference. But, if you are doing strictly studio work and are very particular about your sound, wav is the way to go.

Something else that could give it a "stronger" sound is the volume level it was recorded at. Look for a freeware program called MP3Gain. I use it to set all of my MP3 files to the same perceived volume (perceived volume and actual volume can be two different things but that's another subject).
