hey guys i was wondering is there a auto volume tool for videos and mp3s. different levels on both sound and videos are a bit of a pain!!!!
another thing i have been reading the other forms about the video's and everyone is complaining about freezing etc..
the same thing is happening me so i am at loss to however i was wondering if there is a any1 out there who can tell me the best video format files to use which can lower the chances of a problem occurring!! at the moment i am using mp4,mkv,wma.
but i am unable to figure out which is the best. if we all were able to figure out which format lowered the chances of the program wouldn't that help every1 and us video djs can use our videos with less of a worry of the program crashing..
so i am ask the tech boys to put there imput in to this, if ye know which format LOWERS the risk please tell us so i can at lest help us until the other bugs get sorted out.. and then we can then find somthing else to complain about lol
regards

I'm not a "Tech Boy" but I'll chime in for fun and you of course know not to take girls seriously. :^)
The following IS my personal opinion, your mileage may vary.
As for 'Auto Volume" you can try using the auto gain in VDJ but it doesn't work well enough for my needs and this is why. Take a song by "Drowning Pool" or one of the other equally annoying SCREAM bands. Now take a song by John Mayer and play both at the same volume. While both may be technically the same volume based on output the scream band will sound a LOT louder to the listener than will little Johnny singing Heartbreak Warfare. A this point the only thing I know that can detect and correct volumes is the human ear. (If everything could be automatic we would ALL be out of a job sooner than later)
Formats: I use Mpeg2 exclusively. (almost)
I've long suspected mixing file types can cause issues and I've recently proven it on my system. Up until two weeks ago my last freeze or crash occurred in December 2008. (I play 3-4 nights a week, 48 weeks a year using 95% video) I decided to play around with Mp4 (again) and loaded a few for testing purposes. On my second night I had a total freeze so severe I had to power down the whole system to recover from the error. This shattered my record run for no issues and I can only come to the conclusion using mp4 was the culprit.
According to (Andrew87) probably the most knowledgeable person I've found here when it comes to video it takes more processor to de-code highly compressed formats like Mp4 than does Mpeg2. This may explain why so many laptop users have problems with video since most use mp4 to save drive space.
I believe Mp4 will become the video format standard and Mpeg2 will go the way of the dinosaur. But for me at this point Mpeg2 has proven to be the most reliable format for a crash free system.

I totally endorse what djrenee said about using mpeg2 because it is basically crash free on my laptop also. They take up more space yes because they're not as compressed as mp4 but they are trouble free and eradicates the video freezing issues. Scratching abd backspinning are not problems either with mpeg2 files.

djrenee is definitely pointing you in the right direction. The majority of people having issues with the freezing seem to be laptop users. With laptops it is very difficult to control the quality of the components inside. Many decisions are based on the thinking of "will it work for most consumers". Hardly anyone considers users like us that will push the limits. Hopefully you are using a desktop and can upgrade without major costs.
I would look at the minimum requirements for running video. They may have changed since the last time you looked at them. I found that to be the case when I started having problems with my videos pausing.
As far as volume leveling is concerned...I use MP3Gain for my MP3 files. You have the option of setting your level to actual volume or perceived volume. As djrenee stated, these are quite often different. I set mine to the perceived volume and keep my eye on the db meters.

I've been called a BITCH ON WHEELS many times but I'm perfectly happy with a little "coolness" anytime I can get it. :^)
@djgibbsy Re-coding mp4's to Mpeg2 is not such a good idea since you will probably be doubling your file size with absolutely no benefit in quality and they could be worse for your effort. (Much like re-coding an mp3 (128) kbps to a 320 kbps would be of no benefit) I'm not saying you should not do it since it may help stabilize your system as I described above but be aware you will be wasting drive-space. I would recommend converting the mkv and wmv files to mp4 so you will not be using so many different formats.
