Tópico: Witnessing My First Crack Addict

Este tópico es antiguo y puede contener información incorrecta para la nueva versión.

Well last night I was called to fill in for one of the early starter resident DJ's until the other would show up hours later. Had videos going and jamming away! : ) In the mist of all that I was informed someone else was going to jump in once I finished. Other resident DJ showed up so I packed my things and motioned the incoming guy so he can jump in to set up. Well needless to say he broke out a Herc & his laptop.

I hung out to see what he would use and sure enough double clicks the VDJ icon and off he goes . . Well off he went to hell because, first the sounds was the worst I've ever heard, both decks could be heard at the same time no matter what he tried to do, all kinds of popping noises and etc.

So my first instinct was try to help. He mentioned it never did that and etc . . well at home!! So asked ol boy was VDJ official & what latest version he had, he answered that is was the latest version (did not know the number) and that is was licensed.

Hmmm something is not good, let me look at his configs, I went to the info tab and there it was Ver 6.0 & not registered.

Turned around & looked at ol boy and said Crack Kills! & it just killed your gig!!!

Grabbed my things and walked out.

Personally I won't congratulate you for that behavior...

If you are a PROFESSIONAL then you don't jump on the neck of a guy/boy/whatever because he was not using a legal copy of some software. I think he had his lesson already and your attitude was not needed. Above all we are humans and we're supossed to help each other...

Ever heard of Aristedes the Ancient Greek?
He was a "politician" of the ancient Athens City. In that time once per year all people voted for the guy they thought that he should leave the city because he was dangerous for the democracy. In such a voting a blind man aproached Aristedes and asked him for his help becuase he could not see and write the name on the stone. "Sure" Aristedes replied. "What name do you want me to write on the stone?"
-"Aristedes" the blind man replied.
What do you think Aristedes did? He wrote his own name on the stone!

That's how it should be!

However an amateur Dj was in a very embarasing possition and another PROFESSIONAL Dj just made him more embarassed because he was not using a legal copy of his software...
Do you find it right and something to feel proud off?

I have no problem to admit that I have used illegal copies of the Dj-ing software titles I OWN today. The list is not a small one. I own about 10 Dj-software titles and I have used illegal versions of most of them for some time. I purchased them not because they didn't function properly, or I had problems that get fixed with the legimate version, but because I was convinced (by the software) that their creators deserve their money. Also I've been an active member for some of their communities providing tools, skins, technical knowledge, assistance, e.t.c. without checking if someone is legimate or not.

It's not the wrong functioning software that will force you to buy a title. It's the ethics and the morals behind this.

Personally I feel sad about your behavior.
Don't get me wrong...
Think of it the other way:
What would happen if you helped him to get him out of his embarassing position and then had a little chat about how wrong it is to use an illegal version, the problems he gets and HOW GREAT ASSISTANT he would have if he was legimate by the members of this forum, the extras he can download e.t.c...
I believe the second approach would made him more willing to buy the software, while the current one will only make him more likely to find another illegal copy of the same or another software title...

Point taken though do not totally agree and was not looking for congratulatory comments. I was sharing something that I've read of similar situations in the past and this was my first time to see up close an personal.

I guess you totally skipped the part of " .. my first instinct was try to help..." and the fact that he said "...it was the latest version (did not know the number) and that is was licensed..."

So yes the professional part of me did and always kicks in first and the jumping down his neck (as you put it) was based on him not being straight forward when asked to save him from an embarrassing situation. Bottom line I reached out to help and he set himself up for failure. Further the problem I have with it all of it is then someone will approach him and asked what software he was using and absolutely he would indicate VDJ. That in turn becomes the rumor/voice of he VDJ is bad and etc. So to gain one you lost a bunch based on rumor that will spread like wild fire.

Now; funny you mention about him going else where for a different software; well he got my cell number from the resident DJ, communicated with me just about 2 hours ago and is purchasing VDJ based on seeing how VDJ performed when I was on vs his experience. Overall interesting enough the lesson was learned!

Good Point. I think I have convinced 5+ people to buy Virtual DJ/Vinyl after they saw my setup and how great it works.
Alot of people think VDJ is unstable when in reality it is very stable. Common knowledge that I have learned on this forum
from PC Tweaks to Controller Setup Guides that has helped my setup become pretty flawless.

I am still waiting to go public with Videos but that's another story

What he nationality was he?

That's the problem with that place, they don't take DJing seriously yet and as a result the only guy's they get there are non official. No disrespect.

I would of done the same thing by the way, why waist your time with someone that isn't prepared to put his money where his mouth is. You would be helping every one a be bar tender DJ..

you did the right thing. forget aristotle's lecture over there.

@Charlie I'm with you! It took a few months since I got back here & you've been gone to get things going. We brought in DJ Poison Ivy (The Queen of Crunk), DJ Manny Norte, DJ Epps (G-Unit) & just last week DJ Shortee (rated top female Turntablist) & more to follow. Oh & that's not counting all the House, Techno & etc DJ's from EU that have been out here as well doing other Venues. So things out here are getting a bit better. :) & slowly slowly many are realizing the benefits of being legit.
