Hey Chuck,
In Windows 7 64-bit, with AMD P320 dual core 2.1 GHz, 3GB RAM, I've gotten processes down to about 54 (from 66) with CPU hovering around 10%while playing tracks most of the time, just by uninstalling "bloatware" from the new laptop, and disabling remote registry and indexing service...So far, so good ;)

With all the bloatware uninstalled, and no antivirus installed, disabling start items and all no windows services with msconfig got 33 services running and cpu 2-15 with vdj on..try it...also gamebooster is strongly recomended...plus all the known system tweaks
