When I install version 6.1 will it overwrite my existing version 5.2.1 or can I opt to keep the old version until I am fully confident with the new one?

it will usually overwrite the old one..
their is a way around it.. but will have to do a search on the forums/wiki..
or maybe one of the 'Teamers' will respond..

Thanks Hippydog, that's what I thought, I don't want to loose all of my playlists and virtual folders. It might install a second instance if I direct it to another folder but I don't want to try it until I have the time to sort the mess out if it all goes tits up!

actually if it does go pete tong it's easy enough to sort as long as you have copies of your xml's on c and any external drive if you use one.

Thank you Tayla, I was under the impression that when version 6 was released it was coded differently and didn't use xml files and therefore when updating from version 5 I would loose all of my playlists, virtual folders etc. Also there were no skins that suited my style but whilst checking out the trial version recently I can see that Phantom DJ has produced a skin that works for me (ie it leaves a large area for the playlist/browser).
From what I have read recently on this forum it would appear that my original impressions were wrong and that my playlists/virtual folders will remain intact on updating.
I would be very grateful if you could confirm for me that this is so.
Regards,
Martin

I had minimal problem updating from 5.x to 6.x
some of my keyboard shortcuts went weird (didnt update correctly), but once I started learning how to use the new mapping it was easily corrected..
Folders, songs, cues etc etc all came across fine..
also when you first install 6.x it creates NEW .xml files for the 6.x version and leaves the 5.x version xml files the same..
NOTE: VERY IMPORTANT!!
when you first install the 6.x version and then run it.. ALL EXTERNAL DRIVES MUST BE CONNECTED..
the xml files are updated/converted at this time!
