Tópico: VDJ 7 on Mac OS 10.6.4 DOESN'T RECOGNIZE MIDI-CONTROLLERS

Este tópico es antiguo y puede contener información incorrecta para la nueva versión.

Anybody have an idea why VDJ 7 on Mac OS 10.6.4 doesn't recognize midi-controller? I've been re-scanning for new devices (3 different midi-controllers: Xponent, Hercules mk4, & DN-X1600) on Mappers tab and none of them seem to work with VDJ 7.

Any help will be much appreciated.

Did you try actually mapping the devices? Some MIDI-devices like the DN-X1600 don't necessarily show up in the mappers-list, but they do still work.

Choose "Simple MIDI mapper" from the mappers-list, press the + button to define a new command and then press some button in your mixer. You should now see new entry like "0-24" in the command list. In this case the first number (0) is the MIDI-channel and the second one (24) is the unique number of the particular button you just pressed. Now all you have to do is assign a VDJscript command.

I'm using using VDJ7, OS X 10.6.4. and DN-X1600 too. Everything works just fine.

Thanks for letting me know that VDJ 7 works with DN-X1600 on Mac 10.6.4 (we're classmates on this kind of set-up)... and you're using the DN-X1600's soundcard right?. I think there's a missing link on my configurations, and I need to find it. Did you remember any major adjustment you did either on the mixer or in VDJ7 before you got everything working? I am NOT NEW to mapping really, not too advanced, but I did it several times with different controllers both with Mac & PC. It's just that the way I did it before, doesn't work this time. Oh well, I will check all the latest drivers of my controllers and go from there. By this time I'm typing, I just checked DENON DJ Website and found that V2000 for DN-X1600 is out since yesterday, Oct 18, 2010. 'Hope this will help solve my problem.

Yeah, I'm using the DN-X1600 also as sound card. Works fine with VDJ7 and 4 decks. However, make sure you update to latest firmware.

Does your Mac recognize the mixer at all? Are you able to use it as a sound card with any software, e.g. iTunes? If not, make sure your set the mixer into Mac-mode (Utility --> System --> PC/Mac). Also, make sure you have set the same sample rate to both mixer and Audio/MIDI-settings of Mac OS X.

I had an issue like this as well with the denon HC4500 for midi and sound.

Check out the settings by going to the Spotlight icon (top left) and typing Audio Midi Setup and check to see that it is listed as a controller and check your audio settings.
I checked it once and Rescanned Midi in the Midi Studio and it popped up.
Checked the sound settings in Audio Devices then launched VDJ. Everything worked fine after that - scariest update ever as I was going to do a wedding in an hour!

It was a little odd as it worked with the Hercules RMX the night before but just some food for thought.
Also once you get everything set up Restart the computer. This will save all the working settings incase you have to force quit or loose power.

That reminds me...some USB audio interfaces need to be turned on after the computer has booted to desktop. IIRC my Mac didn't recognize the DN-X1600 if it was powered up before the laptop.

I will try booting up in this sequence and see if it will change a thing. I will try it with my other controllers as well. If this still doesn't work, would you mind attaching a copy of your DN-X1600 settings/configuration and I will try to import it on mine?
Thanks

Here's a screenshot of my settings. My Mac OS X is in Finnish, but you should get the point.

However, I tried mapping the DN-X1600 in VDJ7 and noticed that nothing happened. So far I have been using my Xone:1D controller, so I haven't had the need to map the X1600. Then again, I don't know if the mixer is even supposed to send MIDI-signal over USB...let's check the manual. It might be, that the mixer can send MIDI-signal only via the MIDI-out port in the back. Too bad I don't have a MIDI-cable nearby so I could test it by hooking the MIDI-out to my Xone:1D's MIDI-in and re-route the signal.

Thanks, Bud - It's now becoming clear that VDJ7 has connection problem with midi-controllers (Mac + Xponent thread is getting bigger too). I will re-install VDJ 6.1.2 on my Macbook Pro for gigs and leave VDJ7 on my Imac for practice with 4decks at home. I might even create new keyboard shortcuts and mapping for DN-X1600 (using 5 pin midi for now)... something I can use for small set-ups.

All we can do now is to hope that this issue will get resolved on the release of VDJ 7.0.1

I checked, and DN-X1600 indeed does send MIDI-signal via USB, I have confirmed this by using a MIDI-tracer software. No idea why VDJ7 received MIDI-signal from some devices (like Xone:1D) but not from others (like DN-X1600). For the life of me I can remember was this the situation with VDJ6, never had much need for the MIDI-buttons in DN-X1600 so I don't recall trying to map them.

Developers, is on/off status of MIDI-clock something that affects this?

Did you get your Hercules MK4 working yet? My setup works fine. I have a 15" MBP with VDJ Pro 7 utilizing a MK4 and I didn't even have to map it. Just make sure you have the most current drivers (as previously noted) and make sure the MK4 is USB attached first to the Mac before you turn on the Mac. In the Mac startup process you will see the Hercules word in the center of the console turn white (light up). You should also see a few buttons become blue. Also make sure you go into the Mac Midi/Audio interface and note whether the options are set correctly. Interestingly with the MK4 when your headphones and mic are plugged in at the front the headphones are auto activated but the mic is not. You have to hit the mic button to have mic talk-over. Good luck.

Everything works fine now with the release of VDJ 7.0.1 :)
