Tópico: Help Needed!!! Hercules RMX & VDJ in a club

Este tópico es antiguo y puede contener información incorrecta para la nueva versión.

Hello all,

Looking for a bit of advice about how exactly to connect and set up my RMX & VDJ to use in a club. I currently have only ever played house parties and the likes & recorded a few mixes to upload online and the set up I have works fine for that.
Basicly I have the RMX connected to my Dell laptop via USB only then a jack to phono cable going from the laptop into my hifi for the speakers. As you can tell i'm qite new to all this but afaik I can't use this kind of set up in a club.

How exactly should I be connecting my RMX up to the soundsystem (what cables etc. do I need and where do they go?) and how should I configure VDJ to work at it's best during the set.

I will be using the RMX as the soundcard and there will also be a DJM800/2x CDJ1000s set up for another DJ on the night. Should I be connecting the rmx up to the DJM & then out of the DJM to the soundsystem?

Any help/advice/tips/tutorials would be very much appreciated as although I kind of know what I should be doing I'm doubting myself and have no idea if it is even correct what I have in mind.

Cheers in advance.

Most clubs have one of two options: A) DJ mixer or B) live sound board already installed and or plugged in.
If a DJ mixer is available, plug into an available channel's LINE IN's RCA connectors (Red & White) from your RMX's RCA connectors.
If a live sound board is what's available, then connect to either the AUX IN RCA's or two channels.
The channels are usually mono, 1/4" jack inputs. So, you'll have to use x2 RCA to 1/4" Phone (Mono) plug cables.

Some clubs have neither, maybe just an amp and speakers. If that's the case, you'll have to take your RMX's unbalanced RCA connections and balance them before you go into the amplifier's 1/4" balanced inputs. Why? Well, if you connect unbalanced RCAs to balanced 1/4" jacks you will get hum or buzz.

So how do you balance an unbalanced signal? Rane BB22. Below are pics of my setup. This is how I connect my RMX's unbalanced connections to my amplifier's balanced connections.

From the Rane BB22 outputs, you connect a pair of balanced XLR to 1/4" phone plug cables (most amps' inputs are 1/4" balanced jacks) to the amp's input jacks.

Cheers, that has put my mind at rest a bit. I had originally thought it would be the RMX to mixer then mixer to Soundsystem then started doubting myself.

Does it matter what output channels I use from RMX and what input on the mixer?

Also not a hardware issue as such but what should my settings be on VDJ with this set up? I have had problems before where my cue track plays even when the volume is down on the mixer which I think was to do with how I set up VDJ.

Thanks again.

That could work, if the sound board doesn't have anymore available inputs. But if inputs are available on the sound board; I wouldn't recommend it. The less equipment/circuits the audio signal has to travel through, the better. Audio will be clearer.

I use Outputs 1 - 2 from the RMX. They will also output the Mic.
Outputs 3 - 4 are for the Monitor speakers; they output the same as the Headphone jacks.

That could be any number of things. Settings vary from PC to PC. But the easiest thing to check is to make sure you are connected to the right outputs. Channels' PFL are audible even if the channel fader is lowered all the way. See above.

Chris don't put images side by side, I can never see the second one, well actuall I can see about 10% of it.

No problem. Is this better?

cheers guys, Thats made things slightly clearer for me. Just need to go out tomorrow and get some new cables to connect it all up.

As for the set up what I actually meant was the sound setup page (inputs, Outputs & Soundcard) but as I'm going into the software part of things I'l make a new topic on the relative forum.

Cheers again, appreciate the help.
