I am currently using the VDJ Home edition to get a feel for the software. I was trying the video mixing but don't know how I will get the video and sound to output to the venue's system. Right now I get the small popup window on my Macbook but I am wondering how that will display without the rest of my desktop. What would be a typical setup? How would my Macbook and mixer connect to get both the video and audio to go to the venue's system?

VirtualDJ Home FREE is for home non-commercial use only.
It does not support full-screen video (Limited to small window) and sound options are limited to the internal card only.
For headphone pre-listening (Using a suitable DJ sound card with two stereo outputs, such as Numark DJIO) and the ability to output full-screen video, you will need to purchase the full VirtualDJ Professional: http://www.virtualdj.com/buy/index.html
