Tópico: Plugging in Headphones mute my Speakers

Este tópico es antiguo y puede contener información incorrecta para la nueva versión.

Hi all,

Being overseas currently, I am trying to set up Virtual DJ with just my computer. I'd like to mix without any equipment except a mouse and keyboard :)

I am currently using a Dell Alienware M11X equipped with a Realtek HD Audio sound driver.

I have read several (several) posts on how to get my headphones working and I have reached a point where I believe the following settings work the best:

Inputs: None
Outputs: Headphones (Master - Front output / Headphones - Rear output)
Sound Card: 4.1 (Speakers [Realtek HD Audio])

The reason I have set Headphones as the Rear ouput is because my laptop has 3 jacks. One of these jacks is the microphone jack that allows me to choose "Rear Speaker Out" when I plug in some headphones. Hence, logically speaking, only the rear speaker output should be coming out of the headphones (which should be the preview/cue as set in VDJ).

This works perfectly as the music from the appropriate deck plays in the headphones. The problem is that when I plug in my headphones, the laptop speakers just mute.

I have read mentions of "configuring your soundcard" and quadraphonic settings. I cannot find anywhere in my settings to enable quadraphonic or a "Make front and rear output devices playback two different audio streams simultaneously" option.

Is there anyway I can stop my laptop from muting the other channels when I plug in my headphones?

PS: By plugging my headphones into the other two jacks, I don't get a prompt to choose which channel I want through the headphones...

Thanks to anyone who can help me solve this problem!

Also, I am using Virtual DJ Home 7 during this long holiday of mine. Pretty different from Scratch Live :(

Hi all,

Sorry to bump this but I really would like to solve this issue :\

On a laptop, the sound from the internal speakers will always cut off if you plug in headphones or an external set of speakers.

Most laptops do not have more than one output, so headphone pre-listening is not possible using the internal card (Unless the MONO split option is used.) For stereo output and pre-listening, you would need to add an external sound card, but Home FREE does not support this (You would need VirtualDJ Basic or Professional.)

If that laptop does have front and rear outputs for surround sound and these are truly separate from each other, then you will need to plug a pair of amplified speakers into the front output and headphones into the rear. Use the headphone volume and mix knobs on the default 4 deck skin to set the headphone volume and control how much of the master output is heard in the headphones.

NOTE: It's very rare for laptops to have more than one stereo output. If they do, it is usually a duplicate of the main output (I.e: Allows two sets of headphones to be plugged in, listening to the same output.)

Ideally for headphone pre-listening you will need a proper dedicated DJ sound card with at least two stereo outputs such as Numark DJIO and either VirtualDJ Basic or Professional (Home does not support external sound cards, except during the first 10 minutes for a trial of Pro features.)

Please note that Home FREE is for non-commercial (Unpaid) home use only. It is not permitted to use it at paid DJ gigs. For commercial use, you will need to purchase a VirtualDJ product such as VirtualDJ Basic: http://www.virtualdj.com/products/comparison.html

Hi there,

Thanks for the reply. So that pretty much clears this up - It seems I can't use the internal speakers along with headphones due to hardware limitations/settings.

In regards to what the Home edition for - I am using this just to mix and play for my friends' house parties and such so I don't think it's commercial use, right? Besides, I am only using this for the next 3 months on holiday.
