I have had several occasions now where I've had high CPU usage, fans whirring but Task Manager tells me nothing is running above 10%
I then discovered if I clicked Resource Monitor of the Perfromance tab of the Task Manager and sort the CPU column descending, I get to see the full picture and the file wmpnetwk.exe is the culprit.
This is the Windows service for media sharing. I don't have media sharing setup nor am I connected to a HomeGroup, but this service was chewing up a steady 49% of my CPU.
By typing services in the Windows start bar I found the offending service and initially stopped it to see what happened - It worked! Lappy returned to virtually silent mode and CPU dropped to 5%.
I then double clicked on the service and disabled it from the drop down list of options.
Hopefully this will keep this from happening again!!!
Hope this helps people,
Roy

I only have one PC running Windoze 7 but I'll have a look later and make sure this is disabled.

For sure dude, I use Win7 As well. I disable everything associated with WMP. Msconfig is your friend ;)
