You updated from where?
PC to Mac or from V6 to V7?

Strange!
I only know problems to save BPMs etc., while using a NTFS external harddisk or you are not the same Admin/User like before.
But when you have already used this harddisk with the V6, it can't be this.
Did you changed anything else, then from V6 to V7?

I raised a ticket on this one and I got an answer (see below). But even after doing this, if I move some files to a new folder, I still lose the infos on the track transferred.
In short, after doing the below procedure, make sure your tracks are on the "final" folder you want them to be, then do the re-tagging, scan for bmp, loops, etc...
Hope this will help
Ticket 138140: Hot_cues & Ratings
Status: Answered
Date: Tue 07 Dec 10 @ 8:14 pm
Message: How do you keep hot_cues and ratings stay permanently with your library?
I worked for 3 straight days setting up hot_cues and ratings for hundreds of music & videos but when I went out for a gig and opened my VDJ 7.0.1, all the the markers I did where all gone.
Any special instructions?
Thanks
Jodi

Message: Please check the permissions on your VirtualDJ folder are set correctly:
* Go to the /users/YOURNAME/Documents folder and Control+Click (Right click) on the VirtualDJ folder.
* Choose Get Info from the pop-up menu.
* In the bottom right corner of the Get Info dialog, click on the pad-lock icon and unlock it (You will be prompted for your user password.)
* Then just above that to the left is the Permissions list. Make sure that your user account has Read/Write permissions set.
* Just below the Permissions box there is a button with a gear graphic on it - Click on it and choose the 'Apply to all included' items.
* Once changed, close the Get Info dialogue box to apply the changes.
NOTE: If you use external drives, you will also need to do the above for each external drive.
NOTE: If your external drive is PC NTFS formatted, then VIrtualDJ will not be able to write to it and save your database information. The drive must either be natively formatted for Mac use only, or if you wish to also use it on a PC, it must be formatted FAT32. Mac can't write to PC NTFS formatted drives.

Message: Thanks for a quick response.
I will try this ASAP.
Another quick one if I may, after doing this and I want to create a back-up external drive, will the hot-cues & ratings be copied as well?

Message: They will be providing that you backup the VirtualDJ Local Database file found in the root of the drive as well as the music. When you copy the music back again, make sure you keep exactly the same folder layout/structure as you had before. Copy the VirtualDJ Local Database file back to the root of the drive.
NOTE: You should backup your database on a regular basis if the information contained in it is important to you. Also, please ensure that you backup your entire music collection.

Hey this an old post but I ran across this same problem. After fruitlessly searching for a while, I ended up going through the files and figuring out how to fix this issue.
The idea behind it is that the old versions of Virtual DJ Pro use their old .xml files to save BPM's and access them quickly. When a newer version is installed, or an older version uninstalled and later re-installed the program will not be able to use the old .xml file due to some issue I'm unaware of. Something goes wrong, and the solution to fixing this problem is rather easy though.
1. Navigate to your My Documents/Virtual DJ folder.
2. Inside of there will be a file called "VirtualDJ Database v6.xml". This can be 6 or 7 depending on the version.
3. Right click and select Cut.
4. Paste this file in a folder you will remember. Just in case if this doesn't work you have a safe back up.
5. Restart Virtual DJ Pro and scan a few songs for BPM.
6. Close Virtual DJ Pro and restart it one more time. Check to see if BPM's are saved.
I'm posting this just to help anyone who may have had this problem and wasn't sure what to do. I read a lot of places just telling you to change your folders permissions, and unchecking the read-only section would solve it. While those may be the problem, i still found no solution to this problem in particular until I found where the BPM's are stored. Now Virtual DJ is able to recreate the .xml file with this method and it works perfectly fine afterwards.

The database is used for more than just BPM. It holds all your song information including cue points that you have set, virtual folders, play count, date first seen, last played, etc.
If you delete or remove it (Which cutting it as above will effectively do), then you will loose all this important information. If you've only just started DJ'ing or just DJ for fun at home, then this might not be an issue, but if you are a working DJ, you may not be able to afford to loose this important information (Always backup your database and music collection on a regular basis.)
When you upgrade to a newer version, it will convert the database to the new format if necessary (The old database will be retained for further use with the old version if you still use it, but from that point, both are separate from each other.)
The only time you might have a problem is if it becomes corrupted (You would usually see a 'database corrupted' message at start-up if this is the case) or you jump from an old version to new and miss out the major releases in between, e.g: You were running VirtualDJ v3.4 and jump to v7 (NOTE: v6 and v7 both use the same database format.)
NOTE: Illegal versions of VirtualDJ Pro are well known to have these sort of problems due to unauthorised and improper modifications made to the software by the hackers who created it. Illegal versions can also contain malware, viruses, etc.
Please register your Pro serial number to your account http://www.virtualdj.com/users/edit.html and then download the latest version from the Download Center: http://www.virtualdj.com/download/updates.html
If you have not purchased VirtualDJ Pro then please support the software and its future development by purchasing it: http://www.virtualdj.com/buy/index.html (Especially if you are working DJ and are making money as a result of using it at your gigs.)
This topic is also over two years old, so may no-longer be relevant. The user(s) above have more than likely resolved their issues by now.
