I am lookog to purchase a compact subwoofer for my system. currently I use 2 Mackie SRM 450 tops with 2 Mackie 1801 subs.
the subs are over 100 pounds and very arkward to lift by yourself.
I am looking to purchase 2 JBL eon 510 tops and a lightweight compact sub just to do small events and bars.
My choices are for powered subs:
Yorkville LS200P
QSC K Sub
Gemini GVX-SUB12P Powered Subwoofer
Any ideas of which one to buy...also are there any other lightwieght powered subs you guys reccomend.

if the yorkville and qsc arent powered id go for the gemini, itll take a little strain off your amp from the addition. though you will gain some cable lol.

I would go for the QSC if you can.

What Up big Mark. I would go with Gemini 12 sub. I heard the Qsc ksub and i didnt like it. The sub just fills the are with a Hum. More like a bunch of people humming and your are paying 900 dollars.

Here is something a little different:
http://www.peavey.com/products/browse.cfm/action/list/cat/104/item/110985/Subwoofers.cfm
It's a plastic subwoofer enclosure. Don't knock it till you've heard it.
Has a impressive set of features as well.
LIGHTWEIGHT.
Built in crossover.
Did I mention LIGHTWEIGHT?
15 inch speaker
LIGHTWEIGHT
can be pole mounted, or flip it upside down and use it as a base for the tops.
LIGHTWEIGHT
400W program rated 800W peak.
LIGHTWEIGHT.
Seriously though - small, high powered and cheap. Unfortunately you are going to drop about 600-700 on a good amp.

Qsc makes good speakers but.. That Ksub is not a 18 inch sub. its two 12 inches in a band pass enclosure. Thats why you dont feel the bass. You only hear a hum.

Caliente, I think he was refering to the 18" direct radiating model that QSC do.
Kind of agree with Caliente in as mutch as Bandpass subs have a limited frequency response. The Ksub only operates between 40 and 100HZ so carefull matching with any satelite speakers is a must. I use 18" JBL subs but have to say that for its size and weight the Ksub does a respectable job of the low stuff. Small gigs would need one larger gigs will need 2. At only 75lbs it is one of the lightest and most compact 1000W subs on the market.
The big however is that the sound may not be what you are looking for. If you expect it to fill in and compliment the tops then fine. If you expect it to get your trousers flapping then an 18 is the only way to go. QSC also make a good powered 18 and perhaps only one would do the job.
Can't comment on the Gemini speakers but in general have not been impressed with their sound or relyability.
As with any speaker the proof is in the listening and it is a personal choice. Se if you can, hire a Ksub and try it. If it don't work for you then you have lost nothing and can look elsware.

RCF do the 902-AS
I have the 905-AS's and think there ok for small gigs.
Stay away from the PV Impulse range, if that was the PV sub in question as they are the worst I've heard! actually I used to own a pair years ago.

Ok SUB and Light weight do not go together!! Just wont happen...you need that heave magnet and wood case to get the Bass umph!!
Ok here is wht I use for small to meduim halls and it sounds nice!! I use it with a pair of passive Pevey PR15 as tops with a Behringer EPX 3000 amp... Not to shabby of a sub for the price!!

If your looking for lightweight you need to get Class D technology built amps. The QSC option sounds best imo.

Mark gave his three options, for a smaller sub. He did not invite a debate on what is the best sub-woofer. Please respect his question, not submit your thoughts on the biggest, baddest sub-woofers.
I understand your question. For similar applications I use a 12" home theater sub. Sure it moves around a bit when I crank it up but, it does the job.

Another option (hope I don't get flamed here) is a keyboard amp. For small venues, keyboard amps can really pound if you send your lows to them.
They're lightweight, very portable, and are reasonably priced. Plus, there are piles of them on the market.
