hi guys...

switched to digital totally last yr from cd's ( have case full with me for back up - res have there own cdj/mixer equipment in there )..

i am using a rather large travel case...you know, the one with the wheels and handle on it, to carry my desktop pc, 22"wide screen, some cable ect...to my res nights at local pub.
large hold all x2 for my cables/spares ect.

i feel rather embarressed about pulling a large travel case in for my pc & 2 hold alls into the pub....i get the piss taken most times...hey big man....you going yer holidays or something ......sigh...

i used to carry my numark decks inside a nice chrome/metal case.....the standard carry case for cdj's.
is there anything like that designed for deskyop pc's ?

or anything more pro looking rather than that bloody travel case with wheels ( holiday time )

cheers guys

johnny

no matter what you do its a desktop. its not meant to be portable. if you a regular weekly gig why not reinvest into a laptop and an all in one. there's SO many new 4 channel all in ones coming out now its crazy. i mean really if your not running video you can pick up a $400-$500 laptop that runs vdj with no problems. if your doing video you can still grab one plenty good enough for around $700-$800

cheers guys....

@djsynystr

just moved into music vids (promo only ect ) over the last 3 mths..+ introducing karaoke as well next wk
so mainly a video jock ( excuse the pun - scottish=jock ...it will click later )

have not bought a laptop as -

have several friends with them - prone to over heating / freeze,lock ups / not enough storage / 3/4 gig memory / to small a bloody screen for me .

with the desktop -

6 fans keeping the lot well cool
5 hard drives with TB's of storage (externals in house as back up...just in case lol )
22" tft wide screen monitor ( great for my eyes lol )
8 gig ddr2 kingston memory ( well more than enough to run vid / karaoke )
more usb sockets than i need
otsAV + virtual dj but....

it looks so un-pro walking in with it.....

but.....
i admit...it does look more pro walking into a place with laptop + accessories.

Absolute myth, been laptop 11 years now and have never overheated.

Not even in Dubai playing outside in the afternoon.

I need to find a case for mine. Just under a year ago I built a shuttle PC in a Thermaltake Lanbox and it is the best thing I ever did. Never a problem so far, faster than any laptop out there, 6tb of storage for all my music, video and karaoke, 6gig ram ect.... My PC case is 18" x 11" x 9" and most people are like what is that? and after I tell them the specs they are impressed lol. But I need a hard case....

these guys do custom cases. to "your" specification. theyre also an extremely well know brand. also based in the uk.

I have seen a few guys on here that have built a PC mobile rig... All components, drives, controller, monitor and projector all in one case. Look in the "this is my set up what's yours?" thread. It is amazing what some of the members of this forum have put together!

OK, here we go. laptops are for little girls, except DJRenee, she don't use laptops. This is what I use. Five internal hard drives, but could add another if I gave up my DVD drive, or got another motherboard that had more SATA ports. Integrated handles, I only have one internal fan. Rides on my front seat, with seat belt on it. The one I built for my best friend has taken a 3ft drop twice (he's a little clumsy), and kept on ticking. I have a 23 inch monitor so I can see shit. Online, virus scan, 7+ effects, both players looping at the same time. Do you rip while playing live? Do you analyze the videos you just transferred from your thumb drive while playing live? I do. Bad motherboard Friday night, changed Saturday morning, and played that night. Can you do all these things with these wimpy laptops? Some of you don't need to do all these things with a laptop, and that is just fine. I spent $3100.00 on a Dell XPS three years ago, with all the bells and whistles. Four year next day service, 4 year McAfee. It is a Vista machine, and to be honest, I have not done what is necessary to optimize it. One day I will upgrade to Windows 7 and see what it will do. Right now, I carry my machine in and rock all night, no problems. Yeah it's a little heavy, but I'm not a little girl, so I can manage. People hire me for my ability to create and keep the party going, not how easy it is to get my stuff in the place.

So bigi 2552, I'm with you. Look here for a case. I would not use a roller, because I would not want my computer to keep hitting the cracks in the sidewalk. But if that is what you like, they have those too.

Yes, rack mount cases are also good. It's just when you bring it in the house, Mine is small enough to fit on my desk, when I have to add more files.

@A Man and His Music

yep...real funny my ol son...real funny...not

ones mans poison ect.

what a waste of a post boy..total waste.

next time try something thats constuctive....

so many laptop fanboys on here its unreal.....

phh......

Somebody got something out of it, if you didn't. You can't speak for everyone here. I believe there were three links in that post, that someone learned something they did not know. I know for a fact that at least six people got a good laugh. Nothing I say is ever a waste. Keep coming back, there's more.

By the way, I'm live now, and posting with my desktop

BigJ...respectfully, there are a lot of laptop users, and a lot of shuttle users, along with a lot of straight desktop users here. AMaHM is unique in the way he words things, but very rarely wrong. Try not to take what he says personally, because it was not intended as such, and see the intent behind his post. We are all here to learn, often without even knowing we did so.....

@mod -

no problem..yep,we are all here to learn....some more than others it seems

@A Man and His Music.

glad you enjoyed it ......

as for coming back for more....phh

not gonna waste my time coming back for anything if thats your replys..

I use a desk top and no one has ever given me any shit about it. because they know it's a screamer and know it can kick the crap out of anything they own. I use a gear grab.com strap on it for carrying works great!

@AMaHM I have to say I do agree and that is why I built a Lanbox that is faster than any laptop out there and have all my karaoke, music and video in one spot instead of having multiple externals, that I think looks sloppy, but I did find a bag on that site that is cheap and should fit my PC very well http://www.arribacase.com/ac145.html

I use a Laptop & have a backup Lappy too. I use an external 1.5tb hard drive, my backup is a 2tb. I run video all night with a midi controller and/or time/midi codeing. Works for me no overheating. My desktop at home does seem more powerful/stable. But the LAPPYs get the job done & are is easier on my back. Whatever works, go for it. :0)

@charlie

the flight case company that simon bailey posted is also UK based. swan flight as well as the fligth case company both ship worldwide and are very popular where ever you go.

made to order is going to be a great thing no matter where you buy. also deals can be made on price easy enough
