I will be getting server today (giveaway at dad's work :D) and have NO real knowledge of networking, I have that class next year. But I've been djing from listen2myradio for almost a year and thought I might be able to use the server I'm getting to host my own site to dj off of. Anyone knowledgeable enough to help me?

I think this will not really work.
1. you have to setup a operating system like linux to get the full power of Apache and MySql.
2. you need a network connection to your ISP which doesn't change it's IP every day (Static IP). Normal DSL change the IP on every connect.
If you just want to broadcast - use the internal feature within VDJ to do it. With or without server - you need enough Bandwidth in the Upstream to get it running.

How can I get them on it then? And I do have internet, can't I just plug it into my server??
I started out by using the computer address, but it only let so many people listen, and kicked people off. I need to have as many listen as possible, just in case :)

This is nothing you can change if you use a server at the same location / network.
You have an downstream and an upstream. For making radio you uses the upstream. When it's full then you can't have any new listener.
No point if you are using VDJ or the server - the upstream did not change by this. When everybody say 'Use a server for that' than they mean you have to rent one in a data center outside your home which very BIG upstream and downstream. So you only have to send ONE stream to your server and all the listeners can hear it from there.
BTW, if you have no knowledge of networking, unix/linux at all - better forgett it.
A server is not a plug and play system. It is a computer with operating system, software and hundreds of configurations which you have to handle.

Most of the time you can only get 2 or 3 people at 128k, if you have a 1mbit upload speed. Its better to bounce the connection off of a "server" with a real connection to the net and the horsepower(memory/processor). Just use it for storage space - backup for your music. I have Dell Poweredge Server with a Xeon processor. I mainly use it for music video rendering and editing. My Sorry a$$ ISP blocks port 80, so can't host sites, unless I want to tll people my site is at http://DJKavika:443.
Just use Facebook and a find a free audio/video streaming service such as ustream.com / livestream.com, works a lot easier and its free.
BTW - easiest Linux server to setup:
www.smeserver.org
thanks,
David
