Hi all
I would add to the hardware/products section and have a page for usefull gadgets. Ground isolators, Y cables, Double insulated laptop PSU's, Graphics cables, splitters and so on. Possibly Atomix brand some of the above for sale via the website.
I would also go for try putting together a list of Computer equipment that is VDJ approved or recommended based on team testing.

You are going in the right direction by asking users what they'd do different to improve the software. And I would pay all attention to the critics. The fans are already in the bag. I uses VDJ on a macbook pro and the CPU runs at 50 to 60% and when I load a song it spikes up to 90 and some times 100%. My MBP is a 15'' which is pretty fast but when running VDJ I can't run or have no application open. This is another reason I uses TP2 more often.

I once owned a business (Therapeutic Massage) but they closed me down saying I rubbed customers the wrong way.

What a disparate attempt to a lame joke, hehe.

great thread
i have a mobile biz.....
apparently i was holding back for the same reasons as TearEmUp....
well here goes a coupla things......
i like the app store idea in general , but to be more specific , i think the existing efx are great , i don't see
what's cheap about any of them ....? also i would make certain packages available for download , such as
several edits of the soniques , or maybe for $5 a month subscribe to maintenance / utilities like CCleaner , GameBooster
ASIO4ALL ?? Things like these could be packaged .....possibly for a onetime or continuing fee .......
i like the idea of the recommended hardware (computers , soundcards , videocards) good for users , and charge the
hardware makers who make it on to the recommended list
i would keep upgrading the excellent advanced config .....
i would add a number of refinements to the clipbank , such as user writable labels on each square , and on the top of it
(the clipbank itself) the list of clipbanks (instead of on the left side) ( i currently have 6 , soon to be more) ....
also the random clipbank would work on more than just the first (default) clipbank .....
i love the full page browser view ......something like that might be good for both the clipbank
and the sampler ?? at least for users with multiple clipbanks and sample banks .....
i am pleased to say that one thing i used to ask for has been done , and that's the anchored headphone player at the bottom
of course they did it just for me ....
if i was in charge for just 48 hours ??
i would create the new department of strip club research and place AMaHM in charge as executive VP ...
amongst his difficult duties would be to take strippers out to breakfast everyday at 2 PM ....
i might even do something really exotic like have a VIDEO radio .....? either video the jocks or stream the video
they are playing .......?

Just following on from what Dirk was saying, I would like to see the clipbank developed on similar lines as to what Firetext has set up for their multiple image files...

With selectable banks of files been available to the left in the browser, with either double click or drag and drop facility to change each clipbank.
More windows if possible
Built in randomizer.
Selectable numbered squares to use in randomizer.
If anyone is interested I could pass on a mock up.

Can I be in charge of strip club research? I will do it for free LOL
I like the idea of a Video streaming service for VDJ users. I can see it now www.VirtualDJ.tv
I would like to add another Idea to my original post.
Atomix would develop pro grade dedicated hardware for VDJ, this hardware would have LCD screens that would show you all the information you need without looking at your computer screen. Wave forms, cue points....etc oh and make it a touch screen =)

- fire the guy who put me in charge, because he's obviously not so smart if he made that mistake.
- make a free software so that talented DJs, who 10 years ago would never even know they were talented because they couldn't afford two turntables to start, can now easily discover DJing and become the next generation of superstar DJs.
- continue to make a lot of R&D to always push further what DJ software can do.
- design such cool virtualdj sunglasses, that people who think that the less their DJ software can do the more cool they are, will change their mind and think that having cool virtualdj sunglasses is even cooler than having a striped-down software, and will start to use virtualdj.
- make a deal with the ukrainian mafia, to break the legs of those who don't like my sunglasses, just to be safe.
- fire DJ Cyder because I don't like funny threads.
- hire more blondes, you can never have enough blondes.
But thanks god I'm not in charge... (or am I?)

I also run a business (Multimedia, Software, Marketing) and have done so for more years than I care to mention - I work 4 days a week, from home and deal with companies all around the world from blue chip to one man bands...do I have the answers...hell no!
As above, 24-48 hours isn't long enough to implement new ideas or strategies, but it is sure long enough to destroy what is already a profitable business.
Re-branding is possibly the riskiest marketing strategy, but also one that can yield the most return, if done correctly... If Atomix came to me with the intention of re-branding, I would advise caution. The Virtual DJ brand is one that is well known and generally highly regarded - remember those that say "if you ain't using Pioneer, your not a DJ".... so changing it could possibly do more harm than good.
With that in mind, I did have a NZ based company come to me who wanted to re-brand, but after much discussion, we settled on a new logo and a brand awareness marketing campaign. This simple move (whilst quite costly), gave the brand a much needed lift and the perception of the brand is now much higher (in fact currently rated in the top three in its industry), leading to increased sales.
It's not unusual for companies to bring in new logo's and branding from time to time, as trends change over time - Anyone remember the new Denon branding when it came out?
