Tópico: NEW Laptop Time

Este tópico es antiguo y puede contener información incorrecta para la nueva versión.

I am helping my mobile partner select a laptop to use specifically for DJing and using Virtual DJ. It has been so long since I purchased my Dell Inspiron 5000 that I am unsure what the current technology is to look for.

Requirements are 1) Intel processor 2) Windows based 3) Video and Audio 4) 6 USB ports 5) CD/DVD burner 6) Wifi 7) Ethernet 8) S video or VGA

Can any of you experts point me in the right direction?

Is this Dell XPS 17 overkill for someone mainly doing audio but will do mix video occasionally, particularly 1GB NVidia? Should go for the 3GB or is it overkill? Don't want to overkill unless necessary. Also, will this work seamlessly with the Pioneer CDJ 900s and VDJ combo?

That post was little confusing as you listed multiple options per component. You also listed 6 USB ports as a need - I have never seen a laptop with 6 USB ports and the one you listed only had 4 total. Typically you would just link in a small USB Hub if you really need that many ports. Not sure what your price range is but here is a great deal I saw posted earlier today. This would work really well for a music only person.

If you are doing video and really want that beast of a 17" screen here is an option.
17.3" Dell XPS 17 Core i5-2410M 2.3GHz "Sandy Bridge" Laptop w/4GB RAM, 900p LCD & 1GB GeForce GT550M for $799.99 with free shipping

The I-5 2410M processor is a real sweet spot in power vs price. There have been a few rumbles about VDJ not playing nice with the I-7 2630 for some reason - mostly attributed to its low base clockspeed.

For a little more coin here is how my XPS 17 build came out for best price/performance and longevity. This builds assumes you have less than 1TB of music so it all fits on the internal raid hard drive array - If you have more than that you can just get the standard 500gb HDD and use the $150 to get a 3tB external drive.

Thanks JBart!

Sorry that Dell was confusing....I just pasted the technical spec options. Didn't realize it was all of them.

My Inspiron 5000 has 6 USB ports 4 on the rear and 2 on the side.

ports ? get a powered hub ....

that laptop looks good except not sure about the NVidia card .....

i would definitely check it's compatibility

there are a number of video experts here , try ACW or someone else with lots of video knowledge

to find out about that graphics card, if it's okay spring for the 3 gig.....

Time to bit the bullet this time since the addition of Pioneer WeGo.

What is out there today that would make for a great replacement of my old inspiron? Need something that will last (5 1/2 years going with inspiron) and will certainly handle videos.

I looked at one early this morning and it had an Nvidia GT 525M card. Any feedback on that card?
