Tópico: Slow Search Bar Response

Este tópico es antiguo y puede contener información incorrecta para la nueva versión.

I love VDJ, but the one issue that has been a constant is the slow response to the search bar. When I am typing a search term into the bar what I type doesn't show up until after I am done typing, sometimes by a few seconds, and results take about 5-10 seconds to show up. I am not the best typist so if miss a letter or make a typo it makes things go a lot slower. My question for the community is, what is causing this and what changes can I make to reduce the latency.

For reference My CPU meter never goes above 50% during a search, I think the bottle neck is the USB 2.0 port speed to my external hard drive but since I can't put my entire collection on an internal drive I have no way of knowing if it is that or just the size of my collection.

So here are the specs I am working with.

Sony Vaio laptop with C2D @ 2.26 GHz
8GB 1066mhz RAM
OCZ Vertex 2 SSD program drive - I do not have this problem when I search for music on this drive when my external drive is not connected but I have never had more than 5,000 songs on this drive at any one time.
WD MyBook 3TB external drive with 390,000 songs - Through my various MP3 Pool subscriptions I add about 2,000 songs a month. Yeah there is a lot of overlap but storage space is cheap and I have about 500GB still free on the HD.

Anybody have a collection my size on an internal drive?
Or have a collection my size on an external drive without latency?
My Database XML file is 147MB

Is your external HD connected straight into the USB port or through a powered USB hub?

Speaking from experience, when I switched my HD over to a powered hub, performance was better in all aspects including search.

It has it's own power supply.

its a very large music collection and indeed a very large Database file. I wonder if you could create partitions and split the databases, it would work faster.

Honestly it is not the speed with which the results are displayed, a few extra seconds there is no big deal. I think the problem is that VDJ starts looking for matches while i am typing instead of waiting until I am done typing and then searching because the search bar remains blank until the results are displayed. I understand that in search engines like google so-called instant results are very cool but it seems detrimental in this case. I am not sure that is really how it is working but that is what I gather from my situation.
