Hey, so i have my whole set up all I need is some good loud PA speakers for parties, gigs and etc of about 100 people. I have been doing some research and I know i want active speakers. I want to spend about $250-$300 on each speaker. I can't decide whether to get the Mackie TH-15A's or the Behringer EUROLIVE B215D's, they look pretty similar but the guy at guitar center recommended the Mackie's, of course they are more expensive, he said that the 12 inch Mackie's are better than the 15 inch Behringer's in sound and build quality. I find this hard to believe with my own research and with the customer reviews. ANyway I am sitting on the fence and cannot decide which ones to get, coulkd you guys help me out? Thanks!
P.S. I'll be playing mostly Hip-Hop/Rap, and dance music and I want a lot of bass but i don't want to have to buy a sub woofer.

I have to agree with the salesman, I own both and use the two pairs together twice a week. The Behringers will get you by for now, but I've clipped them more than once, while the Mackies just take the abuse.
Up to you, pay now or pay later.... theres no compromise when it comes to speakers.

The Mackie's sound better but, They dont push much. They are good for small gigs. The really push 150 watts Rms and its 50 watts Rms for the highs. If you want to buy a nice sub, Get the harbinger HP118s.

I do agree with the saleman too, but just an advice: Hear both of them. For me can sound better the mackies, and for you maybe the behringer's can do the job. All of us have different hearing tastes. And they arent the only two only brands, there are Yamaha's, QSC, DAS (I do love them), RCF, and many other reputable brands, in the same price range.

Thank you, could you maybe link me or give me specific names of other models in the $250-$300 range?

Once I used the yamahas MSR100 as monitor... they are pretty loud and sound very nice.... I think it could any small job with stands almost anywhere. They are in your price range brand new. But the other brands I said only used you can get them at that price... sorry, I was reading too fast and I didnt notice at all that you were in a limited budget. My bad.

There's no way around it. If you want a lot of bass, you'll need a sub.
Small "full range" cabs will always be a compromise. They usually only extend to 50Hz at the lowest (and that will be -3dB or more).
Even a bass guitar goes down to 40Hz, and the type of bass sounds used on hip hop etc. go even lower, so you just
won't hear them without a sub.
And you'll also need to make sure it really is a sub. Some of the cheaper "subs" roll off at 50Hz too!

Ok thanks a lot that's a lot of helpful information. I think I might buy speaskers and then buy a subwoofer later, unless i need 2?

One subwoofer with two speaker tops is good enough for a crowd of 200 people.

Harbinger is a hi-fi home speaker company mainly they've been producing PA on and off for years.
Nothing wrong with them
I'd put them in the same category as Warfdale.

Those Harbingers don't look bad, how do they compare to the Mackie's? They're really cheap

Former GC Pro Audio Department Manager here:
The Harbingers are a decent speaker for the money. They don't come close to Mackies in the way of sound though. They sound a little flatter than the SRM450's. Almsot to the point of being a bit "tinny." They are much more suited for use by a solo artist (think singer/songwriter with and acoustic electric guitar) in a small to medium sized space.
If you want to use them for a DJ application, then YOU WILL NEED A SUB. Ferry Corsten, Deadmau5, etc, could play through an inadequate PA and the crowd would say they sucked. Granted they are very talented DJ's, but if the sound is "crappy and distorted" the crowd isn't going to like them. Same goes for you. If you try to half-a$$ it with gear, your crowd will notice. Try getting rid of the reputation for being a no-talent a$$-clown simply because you wanted to save a buck on gear.
My advice? Buy a set of Harbingers. Get the APS15's. $500 for a pair. Then call around and try to rent a sub. Get some paid gigs under your belt and save the money for a sub. Once you buy ONE sub, then keep working and saving to buy a pair of QSC K series speakers. Once you get the QSC's, then the harbingers become your BACKUP PLAN. Eventually you could upgrade to dual subs. Then, it would be possible (granted you lose the backup plan) to hire a friend to take one sub and the Harbingers and do an event while you do one with the other sub and the QSC's. See how that works?

Well I was looking at the harbingers because I am looking for a reasonable priced powered setup I was looking at buying 2 of the harbingers & of course buying a powered sub as well...but I didn't know how the harbingers sound, I was looking at those or either a set of behringers, but not set on the behringers either....I already have 2 Yamaha BR12's & a B52 passive sub....So my sound system is good enough for what Im doing now....I just want 2 go powered so I am not rushing just starting my shopping & researching now cuz I can't buy anything until after I get my kids xmas out of the way (they would be mad if I didn't lol)
