Tópico: New Features in VDJ 8 - Page: 1

Esta parte del tópico es antigua y puede contener información incorrecta para la nueva versión.

Hey guys. Since we probably will have to wait a while before VDJ 8 is finally released, I thought why not start a thread where everyone can try guessing what new features are gonna be included in VDJ 8. It can range from really practical ideas to the plain absurd. Doesnt really matter. It wont make VDJ 8 come any faster, but hopefully it will help make the wait more bearable. I'm gonna start the ball rolling with a crazy idea.

1) VirtualDJ will team up with Apple and incorporate SIRI into the software. And you can ask SIRI questions like:

SIRI what song should I play next?

SIRI bring down the pitch of Deck B by 5%

SIRI get me a beer from the bar

Ah well, here's today's pointless VDJ8 thread :)

SIRI play something we can dance to!

New VDJ will have AI.

We will all be out of a jobs.

Besides that I am very sure with will make Nespresso coffee as well..

I can't really see much else needed so i'd just hope for even more stability (Virtual is super stability at the moment but still not as good as Serato/Traktor).

....and also less processor usage compared to the other 2 main players.

how long does something need to be stable before its considered "good enough"..
myself I am now hitting 2 years straight without a crash.. (and the original crashes on my rackmount were never caused by VDJ, it was a bad raid drive..)

Since buying the latest version of VDJ, it's crashed on me twice in live performance out of using it around 15/20 times. Serato has never in 5yrs, Traktor once in a year and half.

I use a macbook with 2gb ram, core2duo 2.4ghz

In contrast I've not had a single crash in live VDJ use, ever. I do see plenty of reports of crashes for Serato - in fact IMHO their stability record has taken a nosedive recently.

It also uses next to no CPU power at all - less than 5% with multiple audio tracks on my (4 year old) gig system. That increases once video is running - not by much though unless I'm using intense computational visualisations. Far less than VSL did on the same system.

I will admit that stability on the mac side is kind of funky. However, I have never had it crash in the middle of my gig on my MBP 17" unibody. So, you may have something else running that is causing it??? I dont run videos ever, tried it, didn't have problems though.

I agree with sbdj that the Serato versions since 1.9 haven't been as good.

I think it's just personal experience as i have friends who've never had crashes with virtual and ones who've had loads.

I've never had a crash live but while at home messing with new effects and such. Now I've had SSL just quit and close, no warning no crash log, it just stopped. I've had VSL corrupt my video files!! Still dont know what the hell is going on there. VDJ7 has been rock solid for me.

Patiently waiting for VDJ8

I would like:

1. A better filter(integrated), more cut off. I have had lock ups with some of the community plugins.

2. Better looking native skin by VirtualDJ. Personally not sure why there is a "spinning wheel" on any DJ software on the screen, unless you are using a touchscreen system. Could use that space for something else instead of toggling between screens- like the video/mixer tabs.

3. Pioneer like Slip Mode, I would love and use it all the time.

4. Some sort of awesome all in 1 video plugin for showing video, camera, scroll text, maybe tweet to virtualdj, that is free or cheap(under $50).

thanks,
David

a.better more sophisticated default skin.
b.COLORED WAVEFORMS anyone that scratches would agree
c.more than visible 10 sample decks (something like -clipbank-)
d.on screen ability to rename cues (intro, hook,or whatever else i choose)

I would like VDJ 8 to have waveforms like this. And also in-built audience cheering sound effects and a large text that flashes either "You Suck", "Average" or "Excellent" depending on how well the mix goes. LOL!

+1 LMFAO

@djxlbass, in regard to "d" you can already name cue points, there is two options, you can rightclick the track wave view and select rename, or if you want to call one intro for example, you can change the hot_cue button to

hot_cue 1 & cue_name 1 "intro"

It will automatically name the cue for you when you set, or jump to it...

That is why VirtualDJ is customizable and does not LOCK you to a specific look. The 'spinning wheel' is VirtualDJ's unique identity - it started as turntables and morphed into the sweep disc.

It really bugs me that people continue to pick this one item out time and time again ... but do you people ever complain about the same EXACT feature that is present in the Serato and Traktor products?

Which brings us to this comment --

djxlbass wrote :

Explain 'sophistication' without referencing Serato or Traktor - because IMO there is nothing 'sophisticated' about either one of those interfaces.

I would be very interested in seeing some 'concepts' - actually graphic representations - of what people think this NEW interface would look like?
But then again we see the debates, suggestions, recommendations, etc. to the guys making skins and what I see is 'complexity' being asked for not 'sophistication'.

So, who wants to get introduced to a software with an overly complex skin?? We get compliments regularly about 'easy of use' right after install. Because the skin gets them right into the software as being pretty self-explanatory to a new user. Sure, after you have used it for several months you might want to change - but at least we allow you to make that change, unlike other software products where you are 'stuck'.

For those asking for a better skin without the silly wheels check out Phantom's CDS4 skin.

i will never vote to do away with the "silly wheels", even though i occasionally use some skins that don't have them.

sitting at work one night talking to a customer i look at computer and the "silly wheels" are stuttering and jerking in place while the music is going = first indication of trouble

turns out that someone had decided to import pictures to be shown up on the screen that night without telling me - unedited, LARGE format pics straight from his camera.
managed to stop slideshow in time to prevent any other issues, and the night went on without a bobble. thanks to those "silly wheels".
