Alright, this goes out to all my VDJ family:
For starters, DJ City, thank you for letting me know about VDJ8, I'm in school so haven't been on in a while. I have my features I'd like to see, but until I start my own DJ software, I'll keep them to myself, been using it for 4 years and I am very happy with it. Sure, we could improve the sound, but guess what? Developers have been busy making it stable. No crashes to report! #knockonwood
With all that being said, I see we have VDJ8 coming out, and at the same time, I am in the process of buying a new laptop. Now, mind you, everyone says Mac, Mac, Mac, and I say this, how is that different than you defending VDJ7 when people say Serato, Serato, Serato? I'm a pretty savvy user, so I'm not worries about viruses and the such, I'm buying a PC for the mere fact that internally, the components are the same, the OS is different, sure, and so if the price! I could max out a PC on upgrades, and to match that on a Mac, it would be literally twice the price! AND VDJ doesn't have all the same functionality?!
I digress....
What I am looking for is suggestions from developers, experts, WHOMEVER as to what to look for in my PC. Sure, I can say, here is one with 8 GB of RAM, a TB of HDD space, and a Intel 2nd Gen 7 Dual Core processor, but ultimately, is that the best machine? The XPS 15z is a studio quality machine, but would a gaming one do better? I'm focusing on Dell because I've talked to plenty of DJs who use Dell and eitheer VDJ or SSL, and they have given me compelling arguments.
So I ask of you, family, please drop me a couple of suggestions before I make this purchase, I'd love to hear from everyone.
Cheers

mate ive been using my dell inspiron for about 8 years now and only upgraded ram and hd for bigger space not because of problems.dell are solid at least for me.its the software that has been improved so much that its solid so crashes are seen less and less now except if it a hardware problem.
my dell inspiron isa dual core t8850...4gb ram with windows xp and as solid as a rock for mps/karaoke/vids with external projector ect.
the specs you mentioned seem nice and to me well enough to run vdj very smooth as long as you set it up properly (ie stopping unwanted programs bluetooth ect)
best of luck

this what i use Dell XPS L702X. 8Gb Of Ram, Intel Core i7-2630QM (Quad Core) 2.0 Ghz With Turbo Boost. Windows 7 64Bit, 1Tb Internal Hard Drive. Besides Being A DJ, Im Also A Pc Tech. But The Reason I Got The (XPS) Series Was I Knew These Were Made For (Gaming) so my thinking was Gaming Hum ? = Better Graphics & Better cooling. because gamers need the Best video card for there games & they need it to run cool (since they play for very long hours). after i got my laptop i wiped the HD clean & did a fresh instal of windows 7 64Bit. and the only programs that i installed were serato itch & VDJ. (I ONLY USE IT TO DJ WITH) i dont do anything else with it. i use my home computer (Dell) to do all my music, downloading, surfing the web, ect, ect. not one single prob at all. i know a few of my other dj buddies who use there laptops fro (Everything) and then they always bring me there system to fix it. and i tell them tyme & tyme again. use it for DJing & use your home pc for everything else. hope this helps you in your decision. ohhh yeah my bad. my DJ set up is the Numark NS7 & i always use VDJ & Serato itch. it just depends what kind of function im Djing.

Thanks Staffy, good to hear that a "veteran" PC is still out there in the field, doing what it does best. The Compaq I had before and this one have ran it with no issues, but I've always heard Dell just seems to have something that HP doesn't.

Thanks Tyme, I am currently running a Dual Core 2.0 Ghz processor with just 2 gigs of ram and no issues, but it's time for an upgrade (I sense a fan died, the laptop heats up more, I'm using an external cooling pad to help. Looking on Dell's site, I was looking at Alienware cause I thought those were for the gamers out there, and your theory makes sense, that if a gamer can rock on a game for 6 hours, a 4 hour gig using a less extensive program should be nothing.
So far I've leaned towards the XPS, just cause of other forums preaching about it, and as sexy as the XPS 15z is, it doesn't make sense to spend more money on a laptop that is primarily used for DJing. I, unfortunately, do use it for other stuff, however, do light web browsing on it but am looking to using my desktop more and more now just to keep the laptop simple. I'm in the IT field and I don't generally have issues with messing up any settings, but I can see how people can mess theirs up. Thanks again

I'd take a look at an Asus. I been using one for a couple of years now and its still as strong as ever. When it comes to gaming Asus is the name you'll see around gamimg forums. I don't know any many gamers who would touch a dell.

I have a Asus that is a beastof a machine but it's not that great for VDJ or Serato.
My MBP is GREAT. I wist VDJ were more compatiable but i'm thinking v8 will address that.
I have a BRAND NEW Dell Latitude. i5 2.60Ghz 4gb memory 250gb hard drive.
I have not used it yet. Have not loaded anything on it. It does not even have bloatware. Just IE.
I think imma sell it though as I really don't need it at all. THIS IS NOT A FOR SALE POST!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh, it's quad core.
Where is the post on tweaking and optomizing windows computers? I would like to optomize this i5 for VDJ.
Can anyone point me in the right direction?
