What are quality usb cables? what brand? I am curious to know if there is a difference in quality of gold plated usb and sliver plated. I would love to hear the opinion the the VDJ community.

There's no real difference between Silver/Golden platted cables. However there's a huge difference when it comes to the stability of the USB port data rate depending on the thickness of the cable.
"High Quality" USB cables usually have larger diameter. They have more grid wires (richer mess) on the shield of the signal, and they also use thicker plastic isolation providing better shield/isolation from external interference.
Also if you are really troubled about USB ports stability try to use SHORT cables. Cables longer than 1meter can produce instability on the data rate especially if they are very "thin"
