Alright, so after some pondering and talking with a friend of mine who dj's in Amsterdam, I finally got sold over to try this. It looks amazingly fun.
Im prepared to put effort into it, but im not quite sure what do to and what to start with.
What do you guys recommend as starting gear?
My friend recommended
Behringer djx750 and NI Audio 6 and use Traktor 2 as a program.
Will this work?
Do you have any better options?
It also needs to be in that sort of pricerange.
Thanks in advance, I appreciate all the help I can get.
Peace!

Since you are looking at NI hardware and software you're maybe better asking on their forum. We do have some Traktor users here who can comment however I personally prefer Virtual DJ. Depends whether you are audio only or need video support.

I use an all in one controller but I am sure others will be along to comment on mixers.

i recommend going out and buying a Hercules controller rmx or 4mx and using virtual dj tractor is not as user friendly and virtual dj and i believe the Hercules comes with virtual dj le witch is a start then in the future if you want to move up to cd players or turntables using time code the Hercules midi controller will support that. but to start the midi controller is the way to go you can control everything you will need and works beautifully with virtual dj and also you have support for sooo many controllers and so much support on these forums. trust me home this helps.

I would not go the way your friend recommended an external mixer + external audio card with no midi options. you will have a setup where you have to control and mix everything with a mouse.
I would personally go for an all in one controller (less cables mess and simple to set up) these http://www.virtualdj.com/products/hardware.html are supported by VDJ out of the box
About Traktor vs VDJ it all depends really. Traktor is very good for mixing only music, in my opinion better then VDJ at only that. but if you plan in the future to mix video or use Karaoke nothing compares to VDJ.
VDJ supports a lot more controllers out of the box then Traktor.
VDJ you can skin to your likings Traktor only gives you options to show or hide stuff.
VDJ effects are ok while Traktors effect are amazing.
VDJ and Traktor can broadcase over internet radio although I've only tried VDJ for that.
At the club I work I DJ with Traktor pro and we have a computer set up upstairs in the other bar running VDJ for Karaoke. If I'm going to mix videos in the future I'm back to VDJ.
A traktor guy will almost always talk down on VDJ and same might go for a VDJ guy about Traktor, just because they havn't given the other a chance.
Coming from nowhere I think VDJ is easier to learn although I think learning Traktor was fairly easy too.

What is your budget for gear? What type of music will you be mixing? EDM or will you be a HipHop/Scratch DJ?
I would stay away from DJX750. Sound is awful, the effects are awful sounding, the BPM counter is not even accurate. Behringer only made one good mixer and that is the DDM4000.
If you have the funds a good 4 channel is Denon DNX1700 which has an internal soundcard for Traktor and VDJ, Pioneer DJM900, Rane 68 which has an internal sound card for Serato. For 2 channels Denon DNX600, Rane 57SL.
If funds are an issue. For a 4 channel, Behringer DDM4000 is a good value with all that it offers. Numark M2 is another good 2 channel.
Also will you be doing CDJs or Turntables?

Since you are from Norway I would first decide what controller you like then go to http://www.thomann.de/intl/dj_software_hardware.html and get your gear they are cheep and fast and have a fixed post of 8€ no matter how much you order.
I've ordered 24 times from them last year and never been disappointed in their service

If you are doing EDM (yes Electronic Dance Music :) ), and have a budget for 400-500 EUR, I would really recommend taking a look at the Behringer DDM4000. It sound good. Kill switches, awesome filter and effects on it.

Awesome guys.
I think the toll/customs fee for importing stuff like this is gigantic though.

Would it be possible for me to get just the Behringer DDM 4000 and an NI Audio 6? :)
Would I need anything else?

do you want to control your software of do you just want a mixer if you want to control software the ddm is not what you want ddm is mappable but you really can only kill ranges mids treble base and fade you cant cue play paus ect ect if you want a controller something that can control all the features of software in order to help we need to know what your plan is what do you want to control and how much control do you want. you can get a mixer and use a keyboard and a mouse or you can get a midi interface and barley half to touch the mouse and keyboard........
Mensajes Thu 19 Jan 12 @ 3:02 pm
And how much would a midi interface cost me?
Mensajes Thu 19 Jan 12 @ 3:05 pm
With a Controller:
Range from $300 - $1000, some have built in soundcards that will allow you to connect turntables/cd players using timecodes.
They work as a MIDI interface and as a mixer.
Economical and very portable.
No Controller: (Audio 6, Serato, etc)
You require an external soundcard, range from $50 - $800+
Will require timecodes, either CD or Vilnyl format, plus cd players/turntables plus a mixer.
I Have recently bought an America Audio VMS2, this controller allows me control the software but it also allows me to connect turntables/cd players should i wish, because it has a built in 4in/out soundcard. Another similar option would be the Hercules RMX and others.
Personally i prefer the VMS2, when I do clubs i can just hook up their cdjs and im up and running, because its an all in one, mixer + controller (midi interface) + soundcard.

So I could buy the DD4000 and the Audio 6, and I wouldnt need a controller? :)
edit: Sorry for being ridiculusly dumb about this, but I've got no clue about anything tbh, and I really appreciate you guys helping me! :)
With the DD400 and the Audio 6, using Traktor, what else would I need to barely have to touch my pc?

if you go with the ddm and audio 6 you will have limited control try to get an all in one controller if you want full control eg Hercules rmx
Mensajes Thu 19 Jan 12 @ 4:08 pm
you would need to cd or midi or record player and time code cd or time code vinyl and then you will barly half to touch your pc another thing to look at is native instruments twitch

I would go with the American Audio VMS4.1 it has 4 channels that are switchable from midi to analog and it's within your budget too.
The VMS2 is also a good choice but only 2 channels but will cost you 140€ less. with this you get a mixer and a controller in 1. but this is my personal thoughts I have the VMS4 not 4.1 and I absolute love it.... was drolling over the new Vestax VCI400 for some weeks and figgured I can do more with my VMS then the VCI. that decision just saved my 670€ :D

If you want to get into DJ iing, Buy a Pioneer DJ Ergo or Numark NS4. I would stay away from the VMS4.1
