Tópico: where do you store your cables? - Page: 1

Esta parte del tópico es antigua y puede contener información incorrecta para la nueva versión.

Hello everyone,

Quick question for all my dj's, where do you store your cables when you're going mobile? I currently have a mini duffel bag but think
I want something more rigid. Someone suggested to me a tool box but I wanted to see what other people are using. Currently in my
bag I have 2 xlr cables, a mini fan (Florida gets HOT in the summer), 4 rca cables, wireless mic system with 2 mics, 1 corded mic, black duct tape, 1 short extension cord, 2 electrical Y splitters, 2 wireless on/off pugs, and a business card holder. That's my bag of tricks! lol. I would pretty much need something to hold all this, neatly organized. Opinions, solutions, would be greatly appreciated!!!

@TearEmUp: That looks perfect! Maybe I would get something similar but smaller.

The tool box is definitely a good move, but only if you've got plenty of space, I couldn't fit something like that in the back of my car. I use arriba bags to put my lights in and I use this one for my cables http://www.arribacase.com/ProductDetails.aspx?ItemNumber=17&MainId=1&Category=2 If we're honest, pretty similar to a duffel bag, but looks a bit more professional, especially since I've got my lights in matching bags too.

I guess a box is easier just to throw things in a the end of the night, but the bag fits a bit better around other stuff for packing.

It's good to reduce the amount of wires you have to carry by hard wiring as many as possible in your rig case, but of course you will always have cables to transport.

If your like me you might even have the same cables numerous times just in different length's in order to keep it neat and tidy depending on the venues you working in.

I have a special bespoke cable trunk, I'll try post picks tomorrow, you can't lift the thing once it's full but it has caster built into the design. It's really for the larger events. Cases of this nature are called utility cases and you can buy them stock in a few different sizes.

This might be good for you if you want something light and compact http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/200698956900?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649#ht_2050wt_955

Ip picked up a few of these at home depot, they are perfect, i use one for my controller (RMX or VMS2) and my laptop, another for CDJs and another for cables. Just have to take out the dividers and the pouch... they are great i think... for $20 each.

wow. Thanks guys for the feedback, I'll definitely consider everything!!

I use something similar to this:

This is similar to the tool box idea that TearEmUp and djrasza mentioned - but these work for me as I have a lot of different audio cables, power cables, extension cords, lighting, stands, etc. Every gig is different and I need to be a bit more diverse. So what I will do is store some things in them since they are stack-able, but also have some empties on hand to load a custom setup in.

I find these essential especially when you have a string of gigs with different setups. You can have a few bins setup previously to your weekend full of gigs and just load the appropriate bins and go.

This may not be what you're looking for as it sounds like you don't have a pile of equipment, but these are very cost effective, have lock-tite lids and come in various dimensions.

The one thing I hate about cables is that it doesn't matter how well you put them away some will always tangle :-)

Seriously though, cable management is one of my projects for this year. I was thinking about investing in a few cable reels. One for my XLR and a couple for my IEC's. That way, no tangling and easy to access. Simply by chaining them together on the reel.

Alternatively, a sturdy storage box for each type of lead to save me hunting through the one box I have at the moment. Again, I'd split by mains power (extensions plus plugged leads and adaptors), XLR, other audio and finally IEC.

Cheers,

Roy

Cool. Thanks guys! I appreciate all the input.

I use tool bags like this:

sturdy, easy to pack, and roll up small when empty. I have a couple different sizes depending on what I'm bringing out. they usually have a bunch of little side pockets for adapters and whatnot.

I have this One , I also put my Headphones and soundcard inside .

Using one of these...

I use those, for my lights, Sinclair...lol

I converted 2 rolling suitcases for cables and laptop/controller (Hercules MK4) works great
