So, I've been using hot cues to jump through songs as to skip the slow, boring sections. Do you set up hot cues on the 1, or can they be set anywhere. I've just been messing around with some new songs recently, not really trying to set up a TenMinMix or anything. Kinda just lazily using VDJ as a song player, and just fading in- and out of each song. But here's my real question, if the beat for one is a blank beat, (no kick drum, maybe just a synth), then can I set it on the 2?

you can set hot cue anywhere you like, It's just easier to keep a song in time when using it if it is placed on the downbeat, If your talking about cue jumping (I refuse to call it cue juggling) like ian golden then you set up the cues on the melody changes so you can play them in any order and re arrange them as you please.

If you become a registered pro user there is also a fantastic plugin created by Duen duen called the "beatslicer" which will allow you to jump to and roll any beat within a 2 bar section of a song, roll sizes are 1, 3/4, 1/2, 1/4, 1/8. It's a lot of fun, and would be ideal for that type of thing

Another pretty cool thing you can do in vdj, is temporarily jump to a cue point while you have a button pressed, then on release jump straight back to where the song would be, this would be ideal if you want to fill in an empty space with a cue point, although then again the sampler can probably handle that better, but you need pro to be able to change the samples.

To map the temporary hot cue map
hot_cue 1 while_pressed

Hi! I'm new to Virtual DJ. What is a hot cue and why would I use it and how do I use it? Thanks!

A Hot cue is a point to jump to in a song. So if there is talking at the begining or a really slow start to a song you can set a cue point or Hot Cue at the part that it starts to pick up, or a part that you want to make a loop with. You can use them or all sorts of stuff.

if your talking about volume, you should try and set each songs db to the same level. I use MP3 Gain... freeware for that!!

On VDJ v8.2 without a controller?
Use the hotcue padpage (it has 8 hot cues)
Or use Ctrl+4 to set and Alt+4 to play (the same for 5, 6, 7 and so on)
Or map extra keyboard buttons for set_cue 4 and goto_cue 4 (the same for 5, 6, 7 and so on)

Or maybe on VDJ v7 without a controller?
use Ctrl+4 to set and Alt+4 to play ( the same for 5, 6, 7 and so on)
Or choose a skin with more hot cues on it
Or map extra keyboard buttons for set_cue 4 and goto_cue 4 (the same for 5, 6, 7 and so on)

in vdj8 you can also edit the song and set the mix in point and mix out point to automatically set the start and stop of a song.
