How about if I buy a controller licence and wish to upgrade, is the initial layout cut from the upgrade price?

No. If you buy a controller license then that is what you have. If you but a new controller you will need to buy a me controller license
There is no upgrade route to Infinity.

So a DJ gets his controller licence for upto $150 and if he gets good enough for a paid gig he has to spend $300 more? That doesn't sound like it promotes purchasing the pro upgrade.
Next question about the djdecks users offer, They get a free upgrade to VDJ 8, pro infinity, I'm assuming?
I've checked the offer and it appears so, is the offer still valid?, If I buy djdecks today will I be a pro infinity licence holder come release day?

You can't buy djdecks for a way too long time now....

Actually controller licenses can be $199 for the Pioneer DDJ-SZ for example.
It also worth remembering that you also get updates. The current LE format gets minor updates but not major ones.
But ultimately you are correct. Someone could spend $199 and then need to spend a further $299 on Infinity. But the chances are there would be a large time scale between this otherwise the sensible choice is to buy Infinity in the 1st place.
And as Phantom has said - you can no longer purchase djdecks.

According to my Account Settings, I have VDJ8 Pro Infinity but the software on my Mac is telling me I need to buy it. When I go to enter the serial number it will not allow me to upgrade on your website.

No need to upgrade - just enter your username and password to login and activate your license on your Computer.
You dont have to pay for it.
