Ok so I hear this term thrown around alot, but I cant find much about it online or how to apply/use it to help me with my mixing. I am new to mixing and everything DJ/EDM, so cut a brotha some slack ;)
my questions
1. in vdj, if u click on the gain displays, you get two different numbers... what do each mean and how could I apply this to mixing and volume control?
2. the meters on each channels volume control - forgive me for I have forgot the correct name for these lights lol, but i know each channel has 2 bars, one for the left and right outputs right? anyway, moving the volume faders have no effect on the meters activity. i noticed the gain control does, how exactly does this work? are these meters the tell all sign for my volume input/output?
3. my gear - i have a mixtrack, djio, studio montors, and vdj7. no hardware with the volume meters, does this limit my ability to control the master volume? if yes, is there any side step or loophole i can use to fix that issue?
4. any mixing tips/pointers you can give on how to use volume control on certain mixes or transitions?
thanks for the help again!

mate try downloading and use mp3gain to convert the volume on your mp3s to same level.i have mine set at 94db.
very easy just open...load folder...analyse tracks...apply gain all done clear files.
also in vdj options you can use auto&remember track volumes you have songs playing at

Doesn't VDJ upon analyzing your tracks for bpm, key, etc. the first time that they are loaded also set the gains so that they are equal, with the "Auto" selected under "gain" -"options?"......why would they all need to be normalized in a separate software?.......They all zero out when they are played, unless it is an Mp3 with completely messed tags" Why should it matter if one is 5 or 10 db off the last track if VDJ zeros them out to be equal volumes?
Secondly, do .wav files carry file "tags" a-la Mp3s?.......if not, can wav files be adjusted for db gain in a program like Mp3 gain?.......thanks forum... =D

I totally agree. I see so many people in this forum suggesting using mp3 gain. The auto-gain in VDJ works great, and if using the auto-gain is applied and the tracks are still a little bit off then there's these things on mixers called gain and volume faders. It seems like nowadays DJs expect the software to do everything for them. If a DJ is using auto-gain and still not happy with the volume of the tracks then all I can say is... DJing, you're doing it wrong.
