One man Band

Well not really a Band in the traditional sense. But I've noticed the past 2 or 3 years a rise in the number of Solo guitarists/pianists or even just singers at corporate events using a backing track and playing/singing along.

Usually they also offer a DJ component as well.

Makes for stiff competition even for Video Dj'ing

I've seen Elvis/cher impersonators. Classic Rock "Concerts" (one guitarist/vocalist playing) a single guy doing ZZ Top (Had a real beard. Gotta hand it to that guy)

Has this Come to you other Dj's in Other Areas?
I'm up in Edmonton, Alberta. Canada.

How do you approach it when Customers compare you as a Straight DJ vs a Live component & DJ combo.

At the club I play at we have em. From 5-9PM happy hour we have one/two man band. Pretty cool cause they typically bring a laptop with all the instrumental either using Ableton or some other producing software and their guitar or keyboard. Sounds like a full 4-6 pc band. The other resident DJ I work with will, at times, bring in a drummer to play with him. Another club here brought it a violin guy to play with their DJ. Very interesting combinations.

Yep, ten pounds of beef for the price of a slice of ham...and don't forget, you also most have a following all the time you perform or you'll only get a bun...

I don't understand??

The moral of the story or, in this case "The reality" is that being a DJ is not enough anymore in a lot of places, you have to be a performer, singer Joke teller, MC, VJ, KJ, musical director/ coordinator all at the same time while playing an instrument.....and do it all... for a lot less...

Ahhh I gotcha now...

I don't know about less. I know a hypnotist that also dj's and his booking fee for Corporate Events is 2200.00

Hour and a half Hypno show
Rest of the Night DJ. (he's hired me to DJ for him.) So I've seen the Invoice.

Don't know the fee's for the rest of the entertainers I've seen.
Makes a difficult sales pitch for 1000.00 video Dj'ing.

Just trying to develop an effective counter-offer for clients.
