Hello everyone, I was wondering if anyone could give me some basic recording tips. Im new to this. Im going to be running out of my mixdeck back into the computer and into a recording software (What type of recording software is the best? And can you recommend a free one?) Any tips would be GREATLY appreciated Thanks.

Can't think of any URL's off hand, but I've run across a TON of sites that offer complete home recording studio plans....Everything u need.....I think if u would do a really thorough Google search u could find some really great resources....I'll look around for you and post back.....Hope that helps...............I would say your first few concerns might be some sound dampening material on the walls/ ceiling, investing in a good set of studio monitors (alot of guys luv the KRK Rokits on Amazon)....a dedicated studio PC or MAC, a basic audio interface and the the daunting task of learning and mastering a DAW of your choice.... (Digital Audio Workstation)..a free one to start is Audacity or Sony Acid Express.....Pro level might be Cakewalk, Pro tools, Fl Studio, Ableton, etc.....almost ALL music these days is made on a DAW and there is A LOT to learn....learn about connections...XLR, TRS, RCA, etc......join forums, ask questions and don't be afraid to ask silly questions.....

Private message me and I'll send u my email and b there for any question I may b able to answer for you.......Guys on here (no not necessarily me, lolol) are VERY knowledgeable and more than glad to help... =D

-there are no Major differences in the professional DAW's usually a matter of choice and what u are comfortable with...I like FL Studio...Most of them offer a demo period the check them out...

-again I cant say enough that if u are going into the seriously, u need a DEDICATED PC or MAC....off the internet!

-dont take all of my recommendations and think that u HAVE TO have ALL of these things to begin to learn, explore and have fun....most of these programs come in free versions and can be used with your mouse......

A very usefull free program for recording and editing is Audacity. It's open source and available for Mac and PC.

i bought a MAC just to do music, im in the learning stages.
im going to use garage band so i can get a feel of how to make music.
then hello ableton, here i come.

or you can go with PC. like blaze said, u need a dedicated pc

good luck

these are tops for bass, it stops it from bouncing around.

just another form of soundproof walls.

these are pretty good

similar to my soundproof room

just felt like putting this 1 in

If you upgrade to Pro, VirtualDJ does a real good job at recording. I've used it to create all of my mixes, and to record my podcast. I do use a dedicated computer when I record. It is much easier than Audacity to record. I also have Adobe Audition, that I use for editing.
