Tema: Question on connecting my Wolfgang PO 50759

Hi there,

Today I bought a Wolfgang PO 50759: a simple yet sufficient DJ controller. I am somewhat skilled in ICT concerning stuff, but in the category of sound engineering I have no experience at all. The question I have is about connecting my deck to my soundsystem. The deck - of course - has an RCA audio output. My soundsystem, a 5.1 surroundsound system, has three ordinairy minijack audioplugs as input.

What are the possibilities on connecting the deck and my 5.1 system?

I had two things in mind:

1) Buying a simple amplifier - that would do the trick. Yet I don't want to spend too much money on an amplifier before I'm sure I like messing around with this controller. So, see next point.

2) buying a MiniJack -> RCA Output converter cable. However! The point is, I have three 3,5 milimeter minijacks al input for my system, not just one! What kind of converter should I use for this ? Can I just use three ordinairy seperate converters, or will my 5.1 effect be lost that way? Are there special 5.1 -> rca converters instead?

Hope you guys can help me out a little!

Thanks,
Maurits

Maurits,

your controller doesn't support surround sound nor has a 5.1 output. Your speakerset will only work with the 2 frontspeakers and the sub.
So you'll be good with the RCA to 3,5 mm. jacks. Make sure you connect them to the front-connector of the speakerset.

For the general interest: The Wolfgang Controller is an Omnitronic TMC 2 (or 3) MK2, sold by a large supermarket-consortium in Holland (and Germany?). It is shipped with VDJ LE.

The 5.1 surround system that you mention sounds like a PC 5.1 system designed to be connected directly to the 5.1 sound card in most desktop PC's. The 3 inputs will be front, rear and centre+sub

If you connect your DJ Controller to the front output, then you will only get audio through the front 2 speakers (No subwoofer, centre or rear.)

If your PC has a 5.1 sound card, then you could connect your PC to the surround sound system and then your DJ controller into the line input of your PC (Using 2x RCA to 3.5" jack cable.) Depending on your sound card in your PC it should automatically 'up convert' the stereo signal from the line in to surround and output it to the speakers.

Alternatively, purchase a pair of powered amplified stereo speakers and connect these directly to the master output of your DJ controller. If you are just using it at home, then a pair of basic PC multimedia speakers will be sufficient if you don't want to spend too much.
