Get as much ram as your money will afford you, if you plan to do video mixing make sure you have a good video card as well.
I believe NVidia cards work better with VDJ than the Radeon cards from AMD. If I'm wrong on that I hope someone will correct me.
I like Dell. Dell has a nice refurbished selection that I've used in the past, same warranty and all with a lower price on the front end.

I use a Dell Studio 1745 with 4GB of RAM and the intel onboard video card. Loaded with Win7 Home Premium 64Bit. Works like a champ.
HP & Acer make some good laptops as well.

i can recommend Samsung Laptops...and TDBennet is right...ram and the VC are essential...check out for minimum i3 cpu...and all will be fine..
