Tópico: My SET Is TOOOo SICK!!!!

Este tópico es antiguo y puede contener información incorrecta para la nueva versión.

Just when I believe my set could not get any better new tech comes out that blow me away.

Today I got the new Mackie DL1608 digital mixer. Holy S$#%....

http://www.mackie.com/products/dlseries/

*Mix on the Fly video is funny.

There is a big taste of Chocolate in this little Hersey's KISS.

At first I thought that this was an expensive purchase until I realized the amount gear that this thing replaces that I could trade in toward it or want to buy.

This one device replaces my:
Behringer RX1202FX 12 Channel 3U Line Mixer
DBX 166 Compressor limiter
BBE Sonic Maximer (Not trading in even though I don't need it anymore)
Back up computer.

Device I wanted to get:
Crossover
31 Band EQ

It is small and ergonomic with touch sensitive interface (your iPad) that fits right next to my computer. (see pic right of Mac)

The thing is nuts!!

Next to nothing Latency (this was my main concern) I don't know for sure it feels like 1msec.

It is super easy to use. I have not cracked the manual yet and I have found way more than I need.

It features:
16 Onyx mic preamps
High-end Cirrus Logic® converters
Ultra low-noise, high-headroom design
6 aux sends for monitor mixes
Master L/R output for mains
Tons of Built-In Processing
Choice of powerful, touch-sensitive plug-ins
4-band EQ, gate and compression on inputs
31-band GEQ and comp/limiter on outputs
Global reverb and delay
Wireless Mixing
Use up to 10 wireless devices simultaneously
Total Control from Your iPad, iPhone or iPod touch
Intuitive Master Fader™ app for all iPad models
My Fader™ app for quick control from iPhone or iPod touch
Preset and snapshot recall
Record the mix to the iPad for instant sharing (they should add a broadcast function to this)

So how do I use it (so far):
-EQ all the mid and highs out then compress/limit program out to AUX 1 for a desecrate SUBWOOFER control (Crosser over) This allows you to protect you sub from clipping.
-Limit/compress the program out of DDJ-SX to to control dynamics from various songs (keeps the levels consistent so you don't need to ride the levels)
-EQ microphone and route through plate reverb and stereo tap delay
-Tweak master 31 band EQ for music
-Mute or gate everything else
-Store As Scene one (SNAP SHOT)

-Copy above setting with music program a little lower microphone a little louder (ducking)
-Store as scene two

-Just microphone with a little reverb everything else muted or gated for speeches.
-Store as scene three.

The beautiful thing is the damn thing is wireless. I can walk around the dance floor tweak the audio/tune the room with a 31 band eq that sounds good while controlling VDJ via its iPad interface. iPhone interface is coming.

While docked you can record digitally directly to the iPad. In case of a failure you can use a basic iPad DJ app as a backup.

Best of all it is 24bit/48khz and sounds super quiet and clean.

Love it, love it, LOVE IT!!

I now have tons of power at my finger tips (remotely even), less gear to shlep and a sexier looking rig!!

I highly recommend the DL1608

Cheers,

Wow that is beautiful :) Love the combination of apple pioneer & virtual dj.

At nearly a grand GBP it's only cheap if you already have an iPad ;-)

Looks awesome as probably something I would consider, but without pre-owning or factoring the cost of the iPad it's not that cheap IMO...

Add to that, the fact you are putting the iPad at the heart of your rig. Can't really unplug it and use it for VDJ remote if needed half way through the night. So, do you then need a second iPad?

Happy to be proved wrong...

Yes! I saw that thing a little while ago and it did get me thinking, but that is a fantastic way to see it used. Didn't know it had limiters and stuff in it, that'd be ideal.

@Gadgetman, I think you could use the ipad to control vdj whilst using the mackie mixer, but you just wouldn't be able to adjust the levels on the mackie at the same time as you're mixing on virtual dj.

@Gadgetman, Hell ya you can simultaneous use VDJ from the same iPad. Simply double click the esc button and switch from Master fader (Mackie app) and the VDJ controller app. The Master fader doesn't stop or get interrupted at all. Audio is processed in the DL1608 Master fader is only control.

In testing, I switch from my browser (checking the music charts), Master fader, Facebook,DM-1 drum machine and VDJ controller wirelessly.

One funny thing that you must keep in mind is to turn off Maigc Jack or any app that makes noise when the iPad fader is up as it will ring through the system :^).

Cheers,

Here is a better photo with the app manager displayed.

Sorry the previous blurry pics here is a clear one.

well with it DDJ SX in there I think the need to use the VDJ remote won't be something you would run into verry often :D
That is a dam nice setup

I MC alot so the need to trigger samples and remote control VDJ comes up from time to time especially playing msuical chair type games. (I can feel the hardcore DJ rolling their eyes at this comment. Hey its a living).

Switching from app to app realy isn't a problem with the DL1608.
