Hi all, I've been experiencing a strange phenomenon over the past few months...I'll do my best to explain my system specs and the issue:
MacBook Pro
8 GB Ram
Intel HD 4000 512 MB Graphics
2.7 Intel i7
Boot Camp to Windows 7 64bit
VDJ version 7.3
Denon HC4500
Issue:
On random occasions during an event, I'll hit the play button on my 4500 and the track will not actually play but the play button on the screen is illuminated as if the song is actually playing (this always happens on the left deck, and only once on the right deck). When this happens, the right deck continues to play as normal. I can stop the right deck, load new tracks in it, automix in a playlist etc. The left deck however is completely out of my control. Cue points, cue, play all take me to the respective cue point but the track will not play. I can drag a new song into the left deck thus releasing the original track, but the result is the same. Whether I use the 4500 to play the song, the keyboard, or the mouse, the play button illuminates yet the song does not play.
I'll then close the program and get the message "a track is still playing....", confirm my request to close, and reopen the software. Most times, I can continue the night as normal with no more glitches, sometimes, the problem comes up again and I have to repeat the process.
I haven't kept a record of these occurrences though I'd make a guess that I experience this problem on a 1:7 ratio.
Each time this occurs, I try to replicate the problem by playing, loading, and using the same songs to initiate the bug with no avail. The bug is not triggered by specific songs or videos, as one day song "xyz" will lock up, then tomorrow I'll play "xyz" again and all is normal.
At the risk of being verbose, I tried to explain the problem in detail....
Have any of you experienced this? Any remedies?
Thanks!
Kyle

This may be caused by the jogwheel touch sensor being stuck on. This would cause the PLAY button to light up but the song to not actually play (Because it's held by the jogwheel.)
Try tapping the jogwheel to release it and/or change the jogwheel mode to CD (Bend), so the touch sensor has no effect. If this happens regularly then it could indicate a fault with the jogwheel.
Another common cause of a problem like this is if the sound card stops working (E.g: Due to loose/faulty/damaged USB cable), which will prevent the song from playing, but this would normally affect both decks at the same time. You can confirm by going to CONFIG -> Sound Setup and clicking APPLY to re-apply the sound settings (If it's still disconnected at this point, you will get an error message.)

Thanks for the reply. I made a note of these fixes and will apply them the next time I experience the problems. If there is a problem with the jog wheels, how can I remove the function that is being activated on the jog wheel that prevents the song from playing? Which MIDI command would I delete if any?
Thanks
Thanks

If it's caused by the jogwheel touch sensor, simply set the jogwheel mode to CD (Bend) either using the Jog Mode button on the controller or via CONFIG -> Options so the touch sensor is ignored by VirtualDJ.
You can also optionally delete the JOG_TOUCH mapping or change it to hold off - However, you won't be able to scratch any more if you do this.

Thanks, I'll post again on the thread with an update upon the next occurrence.

The issue happened twice last night (though not at all on Friday night). In both cases, I changed the mode of the jog dial to scratch, wiggled the wheel a little, the track moved as if I were scratching, then changed the mode back to the standard jog mode and hit play. All continued as normal and the problem was remedied.
Thank you so much for the pointer, perfect fix.

I wonder.......maybe it would help if you flipped the plastic jogwheel disc over.
Probably best to replace it, but in the mean time you could try turning it over.
If you do take it off, see if it's warped. If it is, you could try unwarping it by squishing it with something heavy for a while.

I am glad I am not the only one with this issue. Also seeing that there is the same issues occuring but with different Laptop systems. I did an event on March 2nd and this happened to me 3 times all in the same gig. Fortunately the timing was spot on with music breaks and I was able to shut everything down and re-start all the programs. I am running the American Audio VMS4.1 and this was the first time it happend to me.
