Hi everyone-
I use a Denon MC6000 as my primary controller. I use it as an external mixer and connect two Pioneer CD players to it. Last week, I picked up a MC3000 as a backup. I always carry a 2nd laptop as a backup, so I was thinking if I can use the MC3000 in lieu of my 2 Pioneer CD players.
Since the MC3000 has 1/4" master outputs, I was thinking of getting 1/4" to RCA cables and plugging the MC3000 into the MC6000's AUX 2 or Line 2 and using it in lieu of my Pioneer CD players. I could control the decks via the crossfader or the channel faders.
I also thought of using the 1/4" master outputs and converting those to XLR and combining those with the outputs of MC6000 via 2 XLR Y-splitters to go into my QSC K12s.
Any thoughts on this?
Cheers,
Nick

I'm just curious...
Why not just use the gear you have as it was intended???
Both the 6000 and the 3000 have platters, mixer including a X-fader so why not just use either one instead of using one as a mixer and the other to replace the Pioneers?

I barely use my Pioneers CD players anymore & since I always bring my laptop as a backup, I was looking to ditch the CD players to make my setup more functional. I know I can use the 6000 as a 4 deck mixer, but I'm used to using it as an external mixer with with my CD players, that's why I was thinking of using the 3000 by hooking it into the 6000 under the AUX/Line 2 input.
It probably makes most sense to use the 6000 as a 4 deck mixer and use the 3000 as a backup, if the need arises.
Peace,
Nick

I have always run 2 controllers at any given time. Ideally one running VDJ and Serato. This way if there is an update in software and something goes wrong, you can still finish or re-boot the program you are running.
I too have pick up a MC 3000 to just rung music videos for a gig at a sport bar. Since this set-up requires to be really "mobile", I've also picked up a dedicated laptop that has 2G on the video card. The nice thing about it is that it can also be used as my back up to my MC6000. Just like the original post, you pack it in and if something happens to the 6000, you use it as a stand alone mixer and keep it going with your MC 3000.
I think this is called being prepared!

I tried it last week at a gig & it wasn't bad. I had my 6000 as an external mixer and had the 3000 go into the 6000 using the 1/4" outputs from the 3000 into the line 2 inputs into the 6000. It took a little playing around to get the right output levels, but I got it to work. The other item was to make sure that the channel faders were always up on the 3000 so that I could hit play on the 3000 and use the channel 4 fader on the 6000 to bring in the music.
It'll take a little getting used to, but I think I like it.
Peace,
Nick
PS-I'm paranoid about redundancy also, alas the 2nd computer & backup controller!
