Hi All,
I currently run VDJ LE that came with my VMS 4.1 and I am upgrading to Pro very soon.
I would love to get into more Video DJing.
My Current Laptop is a Toshiba Tecra r950 which is an i5 2.6ghz, 4gb memory, 7200rpm drive, Intel HD4000 graphics and Win7 x64
When I activated the 20 day trial of the pro and was using VDJ to do Video gigs with a projector and the laptop set to extended desktop however I had to tweak a few settings in the registry to be able to display the videos correctly and the laptop did a decent job but the CPU spikes caused me to be a bit nervous. I am a Computer Tech by day and have the laptop setup as a DJ only laptop and the windows setting to minimal.
This laptop died last week and its the second time it has in the short time I have owned it. So as soon as it comes back from repair this laptop is retiring to a backup.
My question is this:
Mac or PC? Lol simple question but here is my issue:
A 13" Macbook Pro is $1199 and its an i5 2.5ghz, 4gb memory, 5400rpm drive (sucks) and intel HD graphics
The other 13" Macbook Pro is $1499 and its an i7 2.9ghz, 8gb memory, still a 5400rpm drive and still Intel HD graphics
The 15" Macbook Pro is $1799 which is an i7 2.3ghz, 4gb memory, still a 5400rpm drive but it has the Intel HD Graphics as well as an Nvidia GT-650m 512mb Video.
When you look at the requirements for mixing video on VDJ it says ATI™ or NVIDIA® video card w/256MB of Dedicated DDR3 RAM and I know it works on intel HD graphics so the question is am I able to mix video fine on the lower end Macbook Pro or am I forced to get the $1799 Macbook because of the 512mb Nvidia Card?
On the PC side of things I found the following at Staples:
Asus i5 1.7ghz (Slower then my current i5) 6gb memory, 7200 rpm drive and a 2gb Nvidia GT-635M Video for $699
or
Asus i7 2.3ghz, 8gb memory, 7200 rpm drive and a 2gb Nvidia GT-635M Video for $1099
My other DJ uses a 13" Macbook Pro on Serato itch but doesnt use video and this never lags or spikes in CPU
I have seen other DJs use the cheaper Macbooks with VDJ and Serato without video and no issues.
I have never seen VDJ or Serato running video on a Macbook only on PC.
So opinions on what I should get and what is going to work well for me would be appreciated. I know everyone will say the higher priced Macbook Pro but I would like to spend the least and get the best performance possible keeping in mind this laptop will never go on the internet nor have any other software installed but VDJ.
I currently own 4 Toshiba and never had an issue with my first 3 but this last one sucks. Im open to other PC Laptop suggestions also. I only chose Asus because I'm not a fan of Acer or Samsung and I was going to avoid Toshiba for now.
Thanks for any help.

Definitively choose a computer with an Nvidia.
Mac or PC, depends on your budget. Just have in mind that the Mac side has less plugins to offer (especially video ones)

Get a MacBook Pro. I don't say this because I am an Apple Fanboy, but because I have had the smoothest experience with Virtual DJ on my MacBook Pro. The software and hardware integrate seamlessly with the OS allowing for worry-free operation. I used to run VDJ pro on other machines, but always seemed to have issues with the audio drivers or controller and audio hardware problems.
My second choice would be ASUS however. They build a really decent laptop for the price. Toshiba used to be really good, but the last one I owned was fairly disappointing performance-wise for the amount of money I paid. I never have had good luck with Dell, so I would stay away from them.

Any dual core or better will do just fine. The more memory you get the faster your libraries will load. Most modern pcs (I run Intel I5 with an integrated card with no issues.) will run video with an integrated card just fine. Get dedicated video if you are going to be websurfing.

I just got a Lenovo Y580 and its great for a mobile DJ, you should consider it, it has a nice price tag too.

No matter which laptop you use another suggestion is goto gameboster.com and download this software it helps run your computer more efficiently utilizing only what is needed to run virtual dj. Check it out, I haven't had any issues after optimizing my computer and using this program.

Thanks all for the replies:
I had it narrowed down to two choices with one being the Dell Inspiron 17r
The choice I went with was:
Asus G46VW-DS51-CA
14" HD+ Screen (1440x900)
Intel Core i5-3230M 2.6GHz
8GB DDR3
750GB HDD+8GB SSD
2GB NVIDIA Geforce GTX 660M
I chose this one because they were the same price but the Asus comes with a standard two year warranty and an accidental damage one year warranty. It also had the 660m video vs the 650m of the Dell.
I get it on Friday and will be buying VDJ Pro this weekend. Im excited to try it out.

Deal alert!
Arguably the best laptop for VDJ at the moment, the Asus G75VW, is currently on clearance at BestBuy for $750!
LINK
This is not a refurb, it says 'New In Box." It will sell out quick, so act quick.
Mine is already on its way ;)
