I enjoy Dell, here is the model I'm driving currently. http://www.cnet.com/laptops/dell-studio-s1745-3691mbu/4507-3121_7-33776088.html
It will run VDJ all day. One controller, two controllers, hours of video mixing, streaming audio to VDJRadio servers while also capturing and streaming audio and video to UStream, never a hiccup. This is with on-board video as well. And it's a few years old now, even better processors and video cards available today. The XPS you are looking at has more power for fewer dollars. I just purchased this Dell for my son, http://www.dell.com/us/p/inspiron-15r-5521/pd?oc=fncwu64s7&model_id=inspiron-15r-5521 , he will only be using it for school so I didn't have a powerful video card installed. Installed VDJ, it runs like a champ, even with the bloatware. Mixed video for several hours with no issues, this was with each file being analyzed at load while other deck is playing a video file. CPU hit about 60-70% on VDJ display while playing, loading and analyzing video files.
I have nothing against Macs (other than they are over-priced), Apple makes good machines, but you're going to get more features, more flexibility, more computing power for your dollars and better support using a PC. (that's not a dig at Apple support, it's just easier to get support for PCs and the applications that run on PCs.)

I now use a Mac but never had an issue with a PC. I went with a Mac because of the syphon feature alone. When it comes to video I can do stuff on a Mac that would probably take atleast 2 Maybe even 3 PC laptops to pull off. I will say it's pretty obvious that VDJ wasnt created with Mac in mind cause it does seem to run a whole lot better on a PC.
The choice is yours............

Mac!
PC work but Mac IMHO work better, have lower latency and you don't run into driver issues.

PC for me, It cost a lot less then a Mac, a lot more plug-ins and software available for PC and as far as latency goes, it's a matter of tweaking your system..
There are many more choices in the PC market and only one expensive choice in the apple market, Not bashing apple just making some points..
More choices with a PC, No choices with Apple, everything cost more and if your lucky to find and buy an after market device for a more reasonable cost, it will stop working after an apple os/ driver upgrade...

But a PC has no syphon alternative that'll work with VDJ . Until that day comes I'm sticking with a Mac and Hopefully when 8 is released the plugins will be balanced out. As for price look at most high end PC's, your still paying around the same price...........

Okay, I'm a little slow. What the puck is a syphon, and why do I need it?

Now I'm pisssssed, you just reminded me Huey I bought resolume and haven't even installed it yet because of that syphon issue not being available for PC, and haven't found a solution for using it with VDJ on my pc laptop..

Heres a short video I did, https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=487241427998101&l=8484960295704207062
Now things have changed a little. I now am using 3 projectors with a Matrox Triplehead2Go and a Maschine Mikro to control clips in Resolume. Sometimes Ill use VPT which I can then use 2 syphon sources and 3 different sources coming out of Resolume with VDJ on its own channel. And yes all running on 1 Machine................
Syphon means you can do video pretty much anywhere (surface) you want. I love it!!

Fanboy I am not!! But like I said there are things I can do on a Mac that I couldnt do with a PC unless I used 2 maybe 3 different laptops. So no Im not trying to be like everybody else(which I could really give a crap what the next man is using unless its something I want to be able to do as well)................next.
And if I was buying a new PC Id go with an ASUS (which I have), not some Dell..............

There might be a way but its waaaay above my pay grade, lol! I have talked to Scott and he thinks it could be done but the amount of power it would take could be a lot from my understanding.

Power in what way, Mac's are much more powerful then a PC using the same processor?

OK then the OS handles things much more efficiently then on the PC side.........stop trying to make this a "mine is better then......" thread. From my OWN personal experience the Mac has handled video much better.......

Lighten up there Huey, I just ask the question because I'm not using a Mac and you are, and since you got your resolume going and I don't I was really responding to your explanation;
"I have talked to Scott and he thinks it could be done but the amount of power it would take could be a lot from my understanding." ..., so I wasn't taking it there at all...

OK I'm Sorry misunderstood you. I think it has something to do with the rendering that's needed. The way I understand it is things would get processed twice I think. One stream would have to be converted so VDJ understands it then pushed through to the mapping program. This is if you were to use VVV, I could be way off cause really don't understand the tech side fully, Lmao!
