Is there a way I can hook 2 laptops to a controller at one time incase ap laptop goes down

Sorry, this is not technically possible. USB MIDI controllers can only be connected to one computer at a time.
However, if you have a MIDI controller that either has a real hardware mixer built-in or a mains powered emergency 'thru' feature, you could connect the output of your second laptop via it.
If it's a software mixer only (Uses the on-screen software mixer within VirtualDJ), then it will cease to work if there is any problem with your computer and it freezes, crashes or needs to be restarted.
A solution is to use a small external DJ audio mixer to connect both systems to or purchase a MIDI controller with built-in hardware mixer such as Denon DN-MC6000.
