Tópico: Considering a change: MC-6000 to VCI-400

Este tópico es antiguo y puede contener información incorrecta para la nueva versión.

Hey all,

I've been running with a MC-6000 pretty much since the day it was released. I've been pretty happy with it, but as it's starting to age I'm starting to look at possible replacements. The VCI-400 keeps catching my eye. Maybe it's all the buttons. Maybe it's the VU's for each channel. I don't know, but something keeps calling out to me.

Anyway, I've searched around the forums but haven't found a ton of feedback on them. So, my question to VCI-400 users out there - have you been happy with the unit overall? How do you have it mapped (in broad, general terms - I don't need to know every detail of every button). Any major snags using it with Virtual?

If there is anyone familiar with both the 6000 and the 400 I'd love to hear your insight.

Thanks!

overall it's a good controller, it's built really well and there are lots of potential things you could do with mapping. sorry I cant type. Learning dvorak keyboard and I don't want to use qwerty. I have stated how much I like it in other threads though. I personally would get the ddj-sx as I like the larger size and the 400 is a little cramped in the mixer section... but in short If you can pick one up for under $500 get one.

I've looked closely at the SX (awesome unit) but I just can't forgive the size of it. If it won't fit in my Big Namba backpack it's going to be a hard sell for me.

Love my 400. It does all that is needed, great sound, its very durable, transportable and with some creativity mappable to the max.

Only thing that hasn't been working that well for me is using the latest firmware that enables the device as offline mixer in combination with Virtual DJ. But the great thing is that you can switch firmware up and down very quickly depending on your need.

+1 .. absolutely love the VCI series.. rock solid controllers, 300, 380 and 400

How so? The standalone mixer feature is one of the reasons I like this unit. I'm not a fan of using software mixers.

ok im missing something... so you're sayingi can bypass the software mixer and use the mixer function from my vci400 only....like disable the crossfader in the software and just use the vci400 faders

Its very likely the way I was using it. But it seems the standalone mixer feature is not disabled correctly when using VDJ. What I was doing was the following:

- Use an external synth on line1 mapped on deck 3
- Using Deck 1 and 2 to mix music and deck 3 to mix in the synth

This goes perfectly well with the non standalone firmware, but with the stand alone firmware the audio on line 1 is running straight through the unit instead of through VDJ (causing sound issues due to a difference in processing speed) and you loose the capability to quickly switch from line in on a deck to using it regularly with audio, the line in always seemed to be mapped on it.

The MC6000 is really long in the tooth now, you have to wonder what their working on next.

I was surprised that they didn't bring anything out this year for BPM what with Pioneer bringing out a new midi controller.
